Historia
A bad best man’s speech can ruin a wedding. Why do we plan every detail of a perfect day and then give the groom’s idiot best friend five minutes of total power? Enter Nate (Glen Powell), a speechwriter-for-hire who helps people write incredible best man speeches. To keep the best man from embarrassing himself (and the newlyweds), Nate uses his list of don’ts: Don’t mention the exes, don’t be rated R, and don’t bum everyone out. Nate’s system never fails. That is, until he meets Dan (Nicholas Braun).

Cute story with terrific voice acting. Love hearing Glen Powell as the main character and all the memory snippets with other amazing voices. Found the ending a little lackluster, but overall glad I listened.

Historia
Tyler Merritt's video "Before You Call the Cops" has been viewed millions of times. He's appeared on Jimmy Kimmel and Sports Illustrated and has been profiled in the New York Times. The viral video's main point - the more you know someone, the more empathy, understanding, and compassion you have for that person - is the springboard for this book. By sharing his highs and exposing his lows, Tyler welcomes us into his world in order to help bridge the divides that seem to grow wider every day.

One of the best memoirs I’ve read/listened to.
Revisado: 04-21-22
It’s hard to explain how much impact this story had on me. I really feel like I know Tyler now and his story taught me so much about a lot of things, especially a window into the world of black men. This story is at times heart-breaking, and yet also really funny. Listening to Tyler tell his own story made it even better. I hope I get to meet Tyler one day - and I know this sounds weird - but get one of those famous hugs.

Fantastic book, expertly narrated. The story has more twists and turns than a roller coaster and really keeps you on your toes. Very well constructed and a joy to listen to!

Fantastic, engaging compilation!
Revisado: 08-30-20
An excellent compilation of stories from a superb leader! This collection does a great job providing some background and context for ADM McRaven’s upbringing and events that shaped him into a great leader. A few small details of his personal involvement in some of the key events in the War of Terror strain credibility just a little bit, but it’s easy to press the “I believe” button because you know he was there. Although some have commented they didn’t like the stories of his earlier life, they are important to get a feel for what shaped the man. And while I don’t always enjoy book narrated by their authors, ADM McRaven does a fine job with the narration and capturing the audio nuances necessary to make this a great read.

I really enjoyed this audiobook. I found the story engaging and thought-provoking. My only issue was the ending. I felt like the author rushed to wrap up all the little loose ends too quickly.

So helpful!
Revisado: 06-28-19
I found this book VERY helpful in understanding how the scriptures can be read in a way that does not condemn our LGBT friends and family. Colby alternates chapters telling his own journey of becoming affirming with chapters dedicated to the 6 “clobber” passages referenced as “proof” that homosexuality is a sin.
However, I did not care for the narrator’s voice. He speaks very slowly and with an air of superiority. I found that by changing the speed to 1.25, I could get through it.

Historia
Can an evangelical theologian and his gay son overcome the differences in belief that threaten to destroy their relationship? For Brad and Drew Harper, that question wasn't theoretical - and neither was the resounding "yes" they found after years of struggle. Writing to each other with compassion, grit, and humor, Brad and Drew take us on their journey as parent and child - from the churches of Middle America to the penthouses of New York's party scenes, from a pastor's-kid childhood and painful conversion therapy to the hard-won victories of their adult relationship.

I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this book. I enjoyed hearing father and son share their story, which at times is funny, heartbreaking and hopeful. Whether you are facing this issue in your own family, or in your spiritual life more broadly, this is a helpful addition to the discussion. Both authors have gone out of their way to be fair with the opposing views and yet candid about their own feelings.
