Historia
Ike Randolph has been out of jail for fifteen years, with not so much as a speeding ticket in all that time. But a Black man with cops at the door knows to be afraid. The last thing he expects to hear is that his son Isiah has been murdered, along with Isiah’s white husband, Derek. Ike had never fully accepted his son but is devastated by his loss. Derek’s father Buddy Lee was almost as ashamed of Derek for being gay as Derek was ashamed his father was a criminal. Buddy Lee still has contacts in the underworld, though, and he wants to know who killed his boy.

It’s a good listen

I enjoyed this book. Enough action to keep it interesting, not too preachy, and enough character development to allow you to care what happens to them.

Historia
When fifteen-year-old Eragon finds a polished blue stone in the forest, he thinks it is the lucky discovery of a poor farm boy. But when the stone brings a dragon hatchling, Eragon soon realizes he has stumbled upon a legacy nearly as old as the Empire itself. Overnight his simple life is shattered, and, gifted with only an ancient sword, a loyal dragon, and sage advice from an old storyteller, Eragon is soon swept into a dangerous tapestry of magic, glory, and power. Now his choices could save—or destroy—the Empire.

Not my cup of tea
Revisado: 02-25-22
I don’t normally write reviews and I really don’t want to do this one. So, I’ll try to be brief.
Storyline: not terrible to be honest, but the writing is not in line with what would be expected in a book. Not sure if it was the reading or the writing but it was stilted to my ears. I got bored very early on and almost requested a refund. I didn’t quit on it bc I decided that every book doesn’t have to be a masterpiece. I know if I’d written one it most certainly wouldn’t be. Thus, I tried to be less critical and just finish it. Let me say that I like to bookmark my spot and listen until I fall asleep. I set a timer so it doesn’t get too far ahead of me if I fall asleep. If I pass out early I just go back to my mark and start from there. I never did that in this book. I just let it go. I didn’t feel any worse for not having done so.
Reading: voice quality is good but the dragon and the weir cat (sp?) seemed to be the same and was so grisly that it was a bit hard to listen to. Other characters seemed fine overall. No real complaints tho.
Would I recommend: No, but that doesn’t mean you won’t enjoy it. I simply think it wasn’t for me.

Historia
For years, rumors of the "Marsh Girl" have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand.

Surprisingly Good
Revisado: 07-04-19
I’d heard about this book and thought I’d stay open minded. It didn’t sound like something I would normally like. However, it’s a story that is well told and captivating. I’m an action story listener. The more the better. This was action of a different sort. I don’t want to give away details so I will just say that I think most listeners/readers will not be disappointed.

Really well done

I'm more of a fantasy reader/listener, but I thoroughly enjoyed this after getting through the first part. I found myself captivated with the story action at least twice. I would recommend it.

Amos Decker's life changed forever - twice. The first time was on the gridiron. A big, towering athlete, he was the only person from his hometown of Burlington ever to go pro. But his career ended before it had a chance to begin. On his very first play, a violent helmet-to-helmet collision knocked him off the field for good and left him with an improbable side effect - he can never forget anything.

Good story
Revisado: 08-06-15
I don't usually like mysteries too much, but this story was well done and well read. I enjoyed it. Criticism: not enough information to allow one to attempt to solve the mystery before all the details were made available at the end or near end of the story. Still, a good read/listen.

Historia
Attorney Calvin Dexter hangs his shingle in a quiet New Jersey town, has a reasonably successful practice, and takes the hills strong while triathlon training. But Dexter is no ordinary lawyer. On Sundays, he reads the paper and shuffles around his dark, empty house, trying to forget about a life he has lost forever. Until, of course, Dexter reads something in the papers that sends him the necessary signal. Until one of the handful who know of Dexter's other life tries to contact him. For in a world that has forgotten right and wrong, few can settle a score like Cal Dexter can.

Monotone
Revisado: 06-29-15
Story was decent, but too much flipping around in my opinion. Performance was so monotone I felt like falling asleep every time I listened except at the denouement. Decent story tho. I ground my way to the end, but I have heard worse for sure. Wouldn't listen again if read by the same performer.

A little long in the tooth
Revisado: 05-16-15
Good story overall. Seems like the author was finding his feet as the story moved on. Also, it seemed like there was quite a bit of filler as descriptions of some things seemed too long and didn't move the story along or turned out to generally be irrelevant IMO.
What I liked best was the pacing. The characters were never just rushing around doing things needlessly despite long rambles by the author. I plan to buy the next book, so I'm not trying to be overly critical. Just thought I would pass along my observations.
