Historia
Clare and Henry have known each other since Clare was six and Henry was 36. They were married when Clare was 23 and Henry was 31. Impossible but true, because Henry is one of the first people diagnosed with Chrono-Displacement Disorder: periodically his genetic clock resets and he finds himself misplaced in time, pulled to moments of emotional gravity from his life, past and future. His disappearances are spontaneous, his experiences unpredictable, alternately harrowing and amusing.

Historia
In Her Body and Other Parties, Carmen Maria Machado blithely demolishes the arbitrary borders between psychological realism and science fiction, comedy and horror, fantasy and fabulism. While her work has earned her comparisons to Karen Russell and Kelly Link, she has a voice that is all her own. In this electric and provocative debut, Machado bends genre to shape startling narratives that map the realities of women's lives and the violence visited upon their bodies.

If you liked the movie "Mother"...
Revisado: 12-21-17
This book is like listening to slam poetry. The plots, if there are actual plots, have been shuffled and diced until all that is left is a fragmented mosaic of prose. Maybe that's the point. It makes no sense and feels like it's trying to hard to be abstract art. If you liked the movie "Mother", this book might be for you.

Revisado: 05-21-16
Hearing this book is like mixing the first time you see high definition on your television wih the drama of a telenovela. There is a LOT of crying, gasping, grunting, and over-obvious internal dialogue, which is necessarily spoken. Once you adjust, you can appreciate the plot. As other reviewers have mentioned, the child character is particularly grating. As somone who appreciates graphic novels, I stuck with it and it was all worth it in the end. Also, pretty sure there was a walk-on cameo by Stephen King. Pretty cool.

Historia
Chief Inspector Armand Gamache of the Surêté du Québec and his team of investigators are called in to the scene of a suspicious death in a rural village south of Montreal. Jane Neal, a local fixture in the tiny hamlet of Three Pines, just north of the U.S. border, has been found dead in the woods. The locals are certain it’s a tragic hunting accident and nothing more, but Gamache smells something foul in these remote woods, and is soon certain that Jane Neal died at the hands of someone much more sinister than a careless bowhunter.

Couldn't Force Myself to Finish
Revisado: 09-02-15
Another story about a smart male detective trying to teach the ignorant petulant new female member of the team who is eager to please and dumb as a box of rocks. Maybe the woman prevails; I'll never know. After hours of listening, the misogyny was too much and I gave up.

When horror author Thad McAlister began his latest novel, a tale rooted in the witch trials of centuries past, the words flowed effortlessly. The story poured forth, filling page after page with the most frightening character ever to crawl from his imagination. It was his greatest work, one that would guarantee him a position among the legends of the craft.

Couldn't Finish it...
Revisado: 08-11-15
What disappointed you about Forsaken: Book One of the Shadow Cove Saga?
The narration ruined this book for me.
The narrator uses a breathless stage whisper that evokes images of 1950's radio saga or ghost tales told by a camp fire- and not in a good way. Paired with the flowery knuckle-biting prose, "...that cursed journal...." I couldn't get images of a Marlene Detrich with her hand pasted to her forehead out of my head.It was all too much. The narration was made more grating as the speaker continuously takes short, sharp intakes of breath often paired with a growly vocal fry that accentuates her overly-theatrical style. I wanted to love the book. I really did. I could not get through it.

Gripping story
Revisado: 08-09-15
This is the first audio book that I've binge-listened to in a very long lime. Excellent plot and stunning insight into the mind of a stalker psychopath. I can't wait to listen to the next book from this author. The narration added to the experience and I'll be looking for more titles with this narrator.

Good Story, Luke Warm Narration
Revisado: 01-20-15
Any additional comments?
Good story, engaging plot, but... the narrator sounds like Carl Kasell alternately impersonating John Wayne and a six year - old girl. It's not a deal breaker but significantly detracts from enjoyment of the plot.

Within the black-and-white striped canvas tents is an utterly unique experience full of breathtaking amazements. It is called Le Cirque des Rêves, and it is only open at night. Vibrant imagery brought to live in silken tones
Revisado: 10-24-11
Although I'm not an ardent fan of fantasy, this story pulled me in with its grounding in reality and human emotion. The touches of fantasy provide an interesting subtext to a rich experience of inner sight and sound. I found the story to be a vicarious adventure of the "what if" variety - having myself, never quite fit into the banal real world. I would rank this story easily within the category of soon-to-be classics.

Agonizing, painful voice talent...
Revisado: 08-02-11
I love this author and will suffer through lousy voice talent for a great story. I'm sorry to say that after listening to literally hundreds of audio books, I only made it through 15 minutes of this book. I don't wish to be rude, but to be honest, I'm blown away that the author would choose to have the book performed by someone with a lisp. I'm hearing impaired, the sounds of "s" & "th" are particularly difficult to hear. Despite this challenge I experienced every one of his maddeningly wet sepentine embellishments until I felt like he'd given me a wet willy. Don't waste your money.
