Historia
On January 27, 1967, astronauts Gus Grissom, Ed White, and Roger Chaffee climbed into a new spacecraft perched atop a large Saturn rocket at Kennedy Space Center in Florida for a routine dress rehearsal of their upcoming launch into orbit, then less than a month away. All three astronauts were experienced pilots, but little did they know, nor did anyone else, that once they entered the spacecraft that cold winter day they would never leave it alive. Apollo 1 is a candid portrayal of the astronauts, the disaster that killed them, and its aftermath.

Needs a lot of work
Revisado: 03-20-23
I was REALLY looking forward to this. I remember the January 27th Apollo 1 fire. But this book spends the first 75% of the book covering the entire space program.
The author spends roughly 2 hours justifying why he wrote the book
The narration is good but he kept mispronouncing the name of Donn Eislie pronouncing it Is-Lee when it’s Eyes-Lee
Again it has its moments but extreme far and few between

Better than the Movie
Revisado: 02-28-23
This is much better and more entertaining than the Roger Moore movie. Very little of it is the same, maybe less than 5 percent. Bill Nighy does a fantastic job. First class narration

I have zero idea why this is a classic. The hero and is love interest are boring with no depth. This is a huge let down.

David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson reunite as FBI Special Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully, joining an ensemble of original cast members in an out-of-this-world production.

Historia
By January 1968, despite an influx of half a million American troops, the fighting in Vietnam seemed to be at a stalemate. Yet General William Westmoreland, commander of American forces, announced a new phase of the war in which "the end begins to come into view". The North Vietnamese had different ideas. In mid-1967, the leadership in Hanoi had started planning an offensive intended to win the war in a single stroke.

I love reading Mark Bowdens books. Guests of the Ayatollah should be required reading in school. Black Hawk down is a masterpiece. But like the Vietnam war this book is just a little too long. The narrator is good but I found myself being lulled to sleep at times.

Historia
On the morning of March 6, 1836, in an old abandoned mission called the Alamo, a small Texas garrison, fought to the death rather than yield to an overwhelming army of Mexicans. Through the years, the garrison's heroic stand has become so clothed in folklore and romance that the truth has nearly been lost. In A Time to Stand, Walter Lord rediscovers and recreates the whole fascinating story.

Great Story
Revisado: 10-14-19
The story of the Alamo is legendary. I love Walter Lord’s book. Very detailed. The narrator is slow to the point I had to move my speed up slightly. He is very monotone in my opinion. Still a fantastic story

This could’ve been a fantastic story. I’m having trouble trying to figure out why this was such a hit. For me I had trouble separating fact from fiction. Uris put in way too many characters. It’s extremely slow moving. However the narrator does a fantastic job with all the voices and accents.

Historia
In the 1950s, a young Indianapolis minister named Jim Jones preached a curious blend of the gospel and Marxism. His congregation was racially mixed, and he was a leader in the early civil rights movement. Eventually, Jones moved his church, Peoples Temple, to northern California, where he got involved in electoral politics and became a prominent Bay Area leader. But underneath the surface lurked a terrible darkness.

Good book with some historical mistakes
Revisado: 04-06-18
What made the experience of listening to First Man the most enjoyable?
The naration voice over job was first rate. Enjoyable with clear understanding of the words.
What other book might you compare First Man to and why?
Apollo 8 by Jeffery Kluger and A Man on the Moon by Andrew Chaikin. These books all showed the human side of the astronauts.
Any additional comments?
The is an excellent book, however there are historical mistakes. At one point the author refereed to Wally Shirra's flight as the 3rd manned Mercury flight when it was actually the fifth man flight, but the 3rd orbital flight.
In another part a spacecraft is refereed to as an aircraft.
Even with these mistakes, James Hansen, does a great job of telling the story of Neil Armstrong with good coverage of Aldrin and Collins. For any history person or space junkie this book is worth listening too.

It's America in 1962. Slavery is legal once again. The few Jews who still survive hide under assumed names. In San Francisco, the I Ching is as common as the Yellow Pages. All because some twenty years earlier the United States lost a war - and is now occupied by Nazi Germany and Japan.

I enjoy the series on Amazon but this is bizarre. Too much time on Eastern Religion The ending was so mellow dramatic I keep waiting for more of an end. Obviously written with the idea of a sequel that never came.
