Historia
Deep is a voyage from the ocean's surface to its darkest trenches, the most mysterious places on Earth. Fascinated by the sport of freediving - in which competitors descend to great depths on a single breath - James Nestor embeds with a gang of oceangoing extreme athletes and renegade researchers. He finds whales that communicate with other whales hundreds of miles away, sharks that swim in unerringly straight lines through pitch-black waters, and other strange phenomena.

Mother Nature has her own agenda
Revisado: 06-02-21
Never having dived too deep I appreciate the caution with which Nestor describes his encounters and reverence he shows the world we may never see. Mother Nature will embrace just as easily as she will kick you out. This book shows that perfectly when we, humans, take for granted what we can do in her world.
From the world of first attempting a dive to the famed Mariana Trench this book offers a glimpse of all depths and offers a vision of those vastly different worlds never available to many.

Historia
The Free Agent Lifestyle is a guide for men who are looking to improve their lives, not with the intentions of pursuing and impressive others, but for themselves. This lifestyle can be a temporary sabbatical from the plantation of expectation, commitment, and pursuing women, or it can be a lifetime change. There is no greater form of empowerment to have than to realize that this life has so much more to offer those that live free.

Revisado: 05-19-21
Coach Adams approaches topics most men are afraid, or conditioned, to not approach and I appreciate it. Status, Love, sex. We are told through life to chase these. If life is a constant game of catch we are trained yo think as soon as we stop we lose but Coach shows why that is not right. Well worth it.

Historia
Today we tend to separate questions of logic from questions of belief, philosophy from religion, reason from faith. But for 1,000 years during a pivotal era of Western thought, reason and faith went hand-in-hand in the search for answers to the most profound issues investigated by Christianity's most committed scholars.

Not exactly what I expected but...
Revisado: 04-23-21
As a person who both loves history and philosophy I rate this 5 star however must admit this lecture series is MUCH more focused on philosophy on history.
That being said it is an amazing break down of various Middle Age philosophers ideas but it still very focused on the ideas more than how it pertains to the time period. Very useful if you are deeply interested in various points of view on religious thoughts. Also, and I must say this to be fair, it will be great if you already have a deep interest in a collaboration of secular and spiritual thought.

Historia
Imagine there was an evil alien society that had this bizarre interest in hunting humans for leisure. Now, imagine they prepared a full guide to teach their own kind how we think, socialize, and most of all, how to spot our weaknesses. Finally, imagine that you got your hands on a copy of one of those guides. Wouldn’t you want to read it to understand if there really is a threat? If there was, wouldn’t you want to learn what the aliens know about us to better prepare to defend yourself and those you love?

Rarely do I finish a book
Revisado: 03-06-21
The title of this book intrigued me. That much is obvious to you as, I believe, it intrigued you as well. That being the case I enjoyed it beyond the title and truly think you will too.
Now to address the fact I rarely finish a book. Often, books seem interesting and make me begin reading. This one is one of the rare ones with staying power. Having read (listen to) hundreds of view points regarding self-reflection the idea becomes a list of how one should do so. This book focuses more on why one should. That, in a world of "ten steps to get what you want," seemed just the variant needed to look at our problem from a better angle.
Though, none of the writing was ground breaking, it was definitely approached in a new way. The author admits his attempts are a desire to better humanity rather than humbly brag about how he has all the right answer as to how to help humanity.
Thank you for writing this.

Perfect and poignant
Revisado: 10-28-20
This book is all about how to look at the world simply. I have read my fair share of mindfulness/meditation/psychology books and by far find it best when said simply. That being the case, this book hits the nail on the head being less than an hour. The relatively short length does not allow for fluff or filler to cloud the main points. Well read, writing and delivered.

Historia
Many of us know the Black Death as a catastrophic event of the medieval world. But the Black Death was arguably the most significant event in Western history, profoundly affecting every aspect of human life, from the economic and social to the political, religious, and cultural. In its wake the plague left a world that was utterly changed, forever altering the traditional structure of European societies and forcing a rethinking of every single system of Western civilization: food production and trade, the church, political institutions, law, art, and more.

I can not recommend this lecture series enough. This series takes you through the arts, medicine, economics and so much more dealing with a time period that should be so gruellingly boring... but it isn't. The lecturer obviously lives her work and it is outstanding. If you appreciate global history get this.

You have been lied to, told there's no alternative, no choice, and that you don’t deserve any better. Brand destroys this illusory facade as amusingly and deftly as he annihilates Morning Joe anchors, Fox News fascists, and BBC stalwarts. This audiobook makes revolution not only possible but inevitable and fun.

Revisado: 12-07-19
As a person who has been able to see the uselessness of buying things I do not need I hugely appreciate the exposing of the material system. This is huge to hear someone else back up. Brand also take aim at the uselessness of corrupt politics and wealth disparity. I for one am grateful this book is out there and more appauled (though after listening it ought to be apparent) that it had to be written by a celebrity before it was given ceedit.

Historia
Taoism teaches the basic principles of living a long and healthy life. The Taoist principles help us understand the inseparable nature of the self and the nature of the cosmos, to participate in the natural flow of events. To gain knowledge about Taoism is the cultivation of a thought process of growth, self-exploration, and transformation and to link our inner self with the surrounding world. This is the way to engage ourselves in the realm of the Tao. What are the implications of Taoism in our daily lives?

Very tough as an "introduction."
Revisado: 11-30-19
I have read many books on philosophy and this one was both great and dry by comparison. The beginning opens a sense of wonder but that feeling is soon drowned out by huge words and complicated descriptions that would be made much easier. I am grateful the chapter breaks had chapter titles, though, allowing some preceeding knowledge of whether to skip ahead.

Historia
God's Debris isn't a conventional book. It is written on three separate levels, by Scott Adams, better known as the creator of the Dilbert comic. What is less known about Adams is that he's a trained hypnotist. God's Debris is what happens when creativity and hypnosis intersect. On the surface, God's Debris is a simple fictional story of a delivery man who encounters an Avatar who knows literally everything.

Historia
Fed up with teenage life in the suburbs, Jaimal Yogis ran off to Hawaii with little more than a copy of Hermann Hesse's Siddhartha and enough cash for a surfboard. His journey is a coming-of-age saga that takes him from communes to monasteries, from the warm Pacific to the icy New York shore. Equal parts spiritual memoir and surfer's tale, this is a chronicle of finding meditative focus in the barrel of a wave and eternal truth in the great, salty blue.
