Historia
In my book, you will meet a little girl named Viola who ran from her past until she made a life-changing decision to stop running forever. This is my story, from a crumbling apartment in Central Falls, Rhode Island, to the stage in New York City, and beyond. This is the path I took to finding my purpose but also my voice in a world that didn’t always see me.

Exceptional
Revisado: 08-25-23
Deeply personal, often harrowing, totally engrossing and inspiring. I came away from listening with rich admiration of Viola's relentless determination and her capacity to set a line and to follow it -- over and over again in her life, from a young age.

Historia
Hortense first experienced alignment as a competitive show-jumper. Now, in Aligned, she delivers an essential three-part guide for anyone wanting to lead with ease, joy, and impact - and to become even more successful. Alignment helps organizations reach their full potential, and people realize their personal goals. Alignment does not happen by itself, however. In Aligned, Hortense uses real-life examples to show you how to connect with who you truly are, do the work to become who you want to be, and project your aligned self from your inner world onto the outside one.

A poorly narrated re-hash of others' ideas

A poorly narrated re-hash of others' ideas
Revisado: 08-25-23
I made it through an hour of this book before abandoning ship.
The parts I listened to were reworked material from other authors like Simon Sinek and Ayse Birsel, interspersed with clichéd stories about people who'd applied the lessons offered -- like looking back to what you loved to do as a child to figure out what comes next. This idea has merit, but it's long past being original.
I suspect that my response to the material was partly influenced by the narration -- the reader didn't seem to connect to the contents, and I ended up feeling like I was being lectured by my fourth grade teacher, rather than being guided by an Executive Coach. The author herself might have brought more gravitas and feeling to the subject matter.
All in all, a disappointing miss for me.
