Historia
One hundred years ago in Port Arbello a pretty little girl began to scream. And struggle. And die. No one heard. No one saw. Just one man whose guilty heart burst in pain as he dashed himself to death in the sea. Now something peculiar is happening in Port Arbello. The children are disappearing, one by one. An evil history is repeating itself. And one strange, terrified child has ended her silence with a scream that began 100 years ago.

Drawn Out With No Resolution
Revisado: 11-10-23
This might have worked as a novella, but as a full-length novel, not so much.
Overly long and drawn out. Nothing actually starts to happen until well over halfway through (unless you like upperclass domestic squabbles from 60s New England). The story has no ending. Half the characters that we follow don't even show up in the last hour and a half of the audiobook, having fallen victims to a 15 years later flash forward.
The narrator tries, but all the voices sound the same.
This book really was just a disappointment through and through that I had to struggle to get through. Normally, I look forward to listening to audiobooks. The boring, overly long, pointless story that has no resolution made me dread listening to this.

Historia
We are in a small room with the vampire, face to face, as he speaks--as he pours out the hypnotic, shocking, moving, and erotically charged confessions of his first two hundred years as one of the living dead. . . He speaks quietly, plainly, even gently . . . carrying us back to the night when he departed human existence as heir--young, romantic, cultivated--to a great Louisiana plantation, and was inducted by the radiant and sinister Lestat into the other, the "endless," life....

Meh...
Revisado: 09-22-21
That's really all there is to say about it. There are much better vampire stories out there. Performance was great, but the story dragged and was very poorly paced. Won't be continuing with this series.

Historia
In a warren of crumbling buildings and desperate people called the Old City, there stands a hospital with cinderblock walls that echo the screams of the poor souls inside. In the hospital, there is a woman. Her hair, once blond, hangs in tangles down her back. She doesn't remember why she's in such a terrible place. Just a tea party long ago, and long ears, and blood.

It's as if Hot Topic wrote a book.
Revisado: 07-04-21
A "dark", "edgy" young adult novel disguising itself as a twisted fairy tale for adults.
it's as if the author read a Neil Gaiman take on a fairy story and thought "I can do that, too", all while sitting in their local Hot Topic listening to late 2000's emo after watching Sucker Punch on repeat.
Maybe I'm not the target audience for the book. It could be I just like a plot that's more than a elaborate fetch quest with "dark" and "edgy" takes on classic literary characters (by the way, for all the inspiring authors and Game Of Thrones writers out there, there are better ways to be edgy, create emotional stakes, and have a dark atmosphere than to constantly have all your female characters face sexual assault).

Good History, Lackluster Narrator
Revisado: 06-07-20
Teddy Roosevelt's time in the White house is fascinating, its just too bad they changed narrators between the first and second book. This Narrator speaks in the same monotone, droning style throughout the book. The previous one had energy, especially when quoting Roosevelt. This one just seems like he couldn't be bothered.
I still highly recommend the book, just be prepared for a very un-enthusiastic narrator.

Historia
On an entirely normal, beautiful fall day in Chester's Mill, Maine, the town is inexplicably and suddenly sealed off from the rest of the world by an invisible force field. Planes crash into it and fall from the sky in flaming wreckage, a gardener's hand is severed as "the dome" comes down on it, people running errands in the neighboring town are divided from their families, and cars explode on impact. No one can fathom what this barrier is, where it came from, and when - or if - it will go away.

Couldn't Finish, Awful Narrator
Revisado: 06-15-19
I wanted to get into this book, but the narrator ruined it. Horrible voice acting, voices for characters so annoying you hope no one ever talks again.
I'll be avoiding anything that has this narrator attached going forward. Avoid this version and just buy the book.

unnecessarily long
Revisado: 09-17-18
Normally I dont mind when a book is long. in fact, I prefer them. However, this one is unnecessarily long. It could have easily trimmed a good 10 hours and the story wouldn't have lost anything.
The narrator is fantastic, each character has their own voice and you never have to wonder who's talking.
The story is good, it really just needed to be cut down.

Historia
On November 22, 1963, three shots rang out in Dallas, President Kennedy died, and the world changed. What if you could change it back? In this brilliantly conceived tour de force, Stephen King - who has absorbed the social, political, and popular culture of his generation more imaginatively and thoroughly than any other writer - takes listeners on an incredible journey into the past and the possibility of altering it.

Historia
It has been 20 years since the end of the war. The dictatorial Augurs, once thought of almost as gods, were overthrown and wiped out during the conflict, their much-feared powers mysteriously failing them. Those who had ruled under them, men and women with a lesser ability known as the Gift, avoided the Augurs' fate only by submitting themselves to the rebellion's Four Tenets.

bad narrator, good story.
Revisado: 04-16-17
Was able to get 5 minutes in before I had to turn it off. Michael Kramer was awful, just awful as a narrator. This book was recommended to me because I like Robert Jordan. I'll be happy to look for this book in print, but I won't try and suffer through a narrator that sounds like they just came off a weekend long bender which ended with them having a sore throat and being unable to catch their breath. my word, was Michael Kramer horrible. if the book is good, great! But you won't find me listening to it as long as it as has a chainsmoking, uninterested actor as it's presenting narrator. A severe disservice to the craft of audio book narration.
