Bearing through two other book and half this one before it actually stated to get good. The arrogant loud assassin with a heart of gold was very trying to get through until she stated acting like an assassin with a heart of gold.

Historia
Everyone expected Violet Sorrengail to die during her first year at Basgiath War College-Violet included. But Threshing was only the first impossible test meant to weed out the weak-willed, the unworthy, and the unlucky. Now the real training begins, and Violet’s already wondering how she’ll get through. It’s not just that it’s grueling and maliciously brutal, or even that it’s designed to stretch the riders’ capacity for pain beyond endurance. It’s the new vice commandant, who’s made it his personal mission to teach Violet exactly how powerless she is–unless she betrays the man she loves.

Can never go wrong with a book from this author. The narrators are great. The “corrections” of the narration is a little jarring but it does not kill the story!!

Wonderful but want to know more!!
Revisado: 08-02-23
Spoiler alert……
It’s never easy to watch a story’s hero die. But I love the way the author let him live in other ways. Not only that but semi redeemed a villain from a previous story.
Although there are still a lot of unanswered questions and curiosity about how the characters faired. But I’m excited to hear that there will be a book with such answers in a later book!!! Take my money. I’m ready to preorder!!

Historia
Xenocide is the third installment of the Ender series. On Lusitania, Ender found a world where humans and pequeninos and the Hive Queen could all live together; where three very different intelligent species could find common ground at last. Or so he thought. But Lusitania also harbors the descolada, a virus which kills all humans it infects, but which the pequeninos require in order to transform into adults.

Another slam dunk
Revisado: 07-30-23
Wow!! Just wow. Sometimes I find it hard to find a story that is entertaining and intelligent at the same time. I am ashamed that I haven’t read this series sooner.
Personal note/comment: I understand that not every character in a story can be the person you think they should be. Or redeem themselves as you thing they should, but you hope nevertheless that they come to their senses. Uhh Qing-jao… she started out as a character I loved and through her selfishness and pride ended up being the character I “hated”. She called it being humble and obedient… all I saw was selfishness when she couldn’t look past what she thought and felt. But alas I do understand that there are many people like this and they all can’t be heroes of my heart. Hats off to the author for keeping characters real even if I wanted them all to be what I thought they should be.

Historia
The most popular and beloved American historical novel ever written, Margaret Mitchell's Gone with the Wind is unparalleled in its portrayal of men and women at once larger than life but as real as ourselves. Now best-selling writer Alexandra Ripley brings us back to Tara and reintroduces us to the characters we remember so well: Rhett, Ashley, Mammy, Suellen, Aunt Pittypat, and, of course, Scarlett.

A complete narrative change
Revisado: 07-30-23
Uhhh I listed to this immediately after listening to Gone With the Wind. So it was absolutely clear to me the difference in tone, characterization, voice…. EVERYTHING about Scarlet. Having been written in the 90s there are phrases and words that would never been used by Scarlet in her time. And completely different from how the first novel had her written. The phrases were too modern. Gone With the Wind (I’m aware of the controversy about it and respect the book for what is is and what it’s not) does a good job of setting up an independent, strong willed woman in a certain point in history where such a woman was not encouraged or respected. But this book starts to turn that on its head. It turn the story from an historical perspective of what the southern feelings were during that time (even though I don’t agree with their thoughts feelings I can understand) with a romance thrown in. To a full blown Hallmark romance. Ugh!
And absolutely nothing against the narrator. She does her job well. But she is clearly a much older woman and that voice doesn’t fit with Scarlet. But I understand that his book isn’t big production work so they got the person who was willing to do it and for that I commend the narrator for more then just her performance.

Weaving a world not a story
Revisado: 07-20-23
This is not one of Ann Rice’s best. She spends the whole time weaving a world where these creatures could exist but there is very little character development or plot. I spent the whole book, almost giving up half way through, begging the main character to grow some balls and stand up for something. To develop and embrace “the beast” within. But alas.

I blame the producers.
Revisado: 07-03-23
Overall good story and I love the continuation of the world this series brought to life.
However the female narrator in this book miss pronounced a few words. Or she didn’t pronounce them the way the other narrators did in the previous five books. So I blame the producers of the recording for not correcting or aligning the different books into one cohesive narrative.
