Historia
In the heat of the city, a man is out of time: speeding in a beat-up Ford Tempo, blasting easy-listening music. Reporter Steve Everett drinks too much, makes love to his boss' wife, and has just stumbled upon a shocking truth: A convicted killer is about to be executed for a crime he didn't commit. In the cold confines of Death Row, Frank Beachum is also out of time. Ready to say good-bye to the wife and child he loves and hello to the God he still believes in, Beachum knows he did not kill a convenience store clerk six years ago.

Historia
"Through all the world there goes one long cry from the heart of the artist: give me leave to do my utmost." This line from "Babette's Feast" lends itself to both of the stories in this audio collection, which tell of unbreakable human spirit and total commitment to life choices. "Babette's Feast," now an award-winning film, takes a humorous look at a pure-spirited community in which love, lost youth, self-denial, and creative urges contribute to making the right choices. And "Sorrow-Acre," the most anthologized of Isak Dinesen's stories, challenges the most profound choice of all. Emmy and Tony Award-winning actress Colleen Dewhurst's warm, sensitive interpretation reveals the subtle beauty of Dinesen's prose.

Two touching stories
Revisado: 08-29-21
Both stories touch something deep in the human spirit. Another reviewer thought that the performance was less than satisfactory. Colleen Dewhurst’s slightly gravely voice, in my opinion, fits the pathos of the stories perfectly.

Historia
A fictional portrayal of an aging revolutionary, this novel is a powerful commentary on the nightmare politics of the troubled 20th century. Born in Hungary in 1905, a defector from the Communist Party in 1938, and then arrested in both Spain and France for his political views, Arthur Koestler writes from a wealth of personal experience.

The story and narration are above reproach. I’d love to see what Muller would have done with the recent new translation from the original German which was recently discovered.

Historia
In 1982, Peter Robinson was hired as a speechwriter in the Reagan White House. One of a core group of writers who became informal experts on Reagan, Robinson absorbed not just the president's politics but his manner and way of carrying himself. And the example Reagan set, as a confident, principled, generous-spirited older man who inspired those around him, molded Robinson just as he was coming into his own.

Great insight into a great man
Revisado: 11-28-19
Unlike Desmond Morris, who was puzzled and perplexed by Ronald Reagan, Peter Robinson understood that Reagan was a man of faith that deeply believed in his destiny and the goodness of the average American. A great book.

Historia
Have you ever thought about life? Jean Shepherd did, in his inimitable way, and Life Is will please those who can appreciate the thought and the inherent humor therein. The eight shows in this collection include performances pondering forbidden magazines, playing tuba in the school band, his old man’s love of Oldsmobiles, chauffer-driven Ferrari's, home in Hammond, the insidiousness of public relations, and so much more.

Can't believe I rated this high?
Revisado: 10-24-13
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Frank Muller makes this book come alive. If you read Moby Dick, you can get bogged down in some of the nautical terms. The audio book moves you right through them and you can understand the central points without those distractions. Also, Frank's adjustments to his voice help you keep the different characters sorted out. Also, he has a great flair for the drama of the story.
What did you like best about this story?
Ah, what more is there to say? It deals with the great issues of life in a way that raises questions but provides no answers, as it should be.
Have you listened to any of Frank Muller’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
This is the best.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Already been done! See the new opera!
