This is a perfect example of Southern life with all its familial connections keeping "justice" within its conventions. I cannot get enough of this amazing narrator!

Historia
Lisa Wingate has been favorably compared to authors Nicholas Sparks and Richard Paul Evans. In A Month of Summer, Hanna Beth has been caring for her aging husband - who suffers from Alzheimer's - and her developmentally challenged adult son for years on her own. But when she suffers a stroke, estranged stepdaughter Rebecca must take the reins. As she cares for her father and the step-brother she's barely met, Rebecca slowly begins to heal both herself and her family.

I loved the characters being fully described by their past memories and current actions. The narrator's portrayal of each character was so well differentiated.

Historia
1970s, Southern Alabama. Sixty-two-year-old Jeremiah Lewis Taylor, or “Nub,” has spent his whole life listening to those he loves tell him he’s no good—first his ex-wife, now his always-disapproving daughter. Sure, his escapades have made him, along with his cousin and perennial sidekick, Benny, just a smidge too familiar with small-town law enforcement, but he’s never harmed anyone—except perhaps himself.

We are family
Revisado: 08-29-24
What an amazingly uplifting book about the struggles and triumphs of life. I, too, grew up listening to the Opry every Saturday and I miss the country music of that time. Sean Dietrich's narration is perfect for this story. It is impossible not to love all the characters who are all just doing the best they can.

Much of the world met Bishop Curry when he delivered his sermon on the redemptive power of love at the royal wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle at Windsor Castle. Here, he expands on his message of hope in an inspirational road map for living the way of love, illuminated with moving lessons from his own life. Through the prism of his faith, ancestry, and personal journey, Love Is the Way shows us how America came this far and, more important, how to go a whole lot further.

Uplifting
Revisado: 05-26-24
This is a truly uplifting book from start to finish. The author is so easy to listen to. His message is built upon stories of life interspersed with thought-provoking quotes from others. He shares vulnerabilities and growth. I really appreciated the steps he outlined for incorporating a practice of love in our daily lives.

overwhelmed
Revisado: 03-07-24
I have just finished this incredible story of our American struggle with the conflict in Vietnam. There are so many varied aspects of this time in our history; so many deep changes that arose after a seemingly ignored reality among much of American society. I am overwhelmed with sadness and at the same time hopeful that this book might spark conversations to bring healing for those still suffering insult and emotional injury.

Revisado: 06-30-23
Another Isabelle Allende masterpiece! She lays out so many of America's atrocities through the story of one resilient little girl and the many everyday heroes that gave of themselves to change the trajectory of her life. The incredible narration added to the authenticity of the lives impacted by history's horrors.

Historia
Don and Mimi Galvin seemed to be living the American dream. After World War II, Don's work with the Air Force brought them to Colorado, where their 12 children perfectly spanned the baby boom: the oldest born in 1945, the youngest in 1965. In those years, there was an established script for a family like the Galvins—aspiration, hard work, upward mobility, domestic harmony. But behind the scenes was a different story: psychological breakdown, sudden shocking violence, hidden abuse. By the mid-1970s, six of the 10 Galvin boys, one after another, were diagnosed as schizophrenic.
