Historia
On January 28, 1742, a ramshackle vessel of patched-together wood and cloth washed up on the coast of Brazil. Inside were thirty emaciated men, barely alive, and they had an extraordinary tale to tell. They were survivors of His Majesty’s Ship the Wager, a British vessel that had left England in 1740 on a secret mission during an imperial war with Spain. While the Wager had been chasing a Spanish treasure-filled galleon known as “the prize of all the oceans,” it had wrecked on a desolate island off the coast of Patagonia.

Great book, terrible narrator
Revisado: 04-21-25
This is a great book, a wonnderfully written tale, but the narrator ruins it. Every sentence is delivered breathlessly and way too dramatically. He has absolutely no sense of pacing. His diction is at least clear, so that you can understand him, but it It's exhausting to listen to him. It's the kind of the story that I love to listen to it, but the narration was so bad that I had to finish it by reading it on my Kindle. Ad as I say, it's a great read. A gripping story told by a talented writer who knows how to pace the suspense. If only the narrator were different.

And yet as the years pass, Stoner encounters a succession of disappointments.

Relentlessly bleak
Revisado: 01-28-22
The writing is skillful, but I can't understand those who call this a "neglected gem." Yes, it's a portrait of academia and of a professor's woes, but the story is just one grim thing after another that he helplessly endures.

Historia
Enjoy the short stories of three of the greatest writers of French literature, for the first time assembled together in audiobook and narrated in a lively way. Guy de Maupassant was an absolute master of the short story genre, delighting in clever plotting, concise style, and efficient storytelling, which he used to produce stunning pieces in a very condensed format. He produced more than 300 short stories; we selected for you nine of the most bizarre, influent, humorous or plain shocking.

Pointless and plotless stories
Revisado: 09-06-21
how anyone could choose these as "best" is beyond me. I'm a fan of all three authors but gave up after five pointless and boring exercises .Also, here's no table of contents to let you find stories.
