A Submarine Veteran's Review
Revisado: 11-23-21
As a submarine veteran, I thoroughly enjoyed this series. Each book in the series progresses to complete a story that feels like the Band of Brothers of WWII submarine warfare. The story chronicles the military service of Charlie Harrison. As Charlie's story progresses, one obtains a sense of the author's appreciation for actual submarine heroes of WWII. Much of what happens to Charlie parallels the exploits of real submarine captains like Richard O'Kane and Mush Morton. I appreciated these apparent parallels because I got a sense of the research conducted by the author. Some minor nuances to submarine life are slightly off, but most of the details were very accurate. Well done, Craig DiLouie!
Narration: R.C. Bray always knocks it out of the park when it comes to narrating. This performance of Crash Dive is no exception. There are some light sound effects in the series. They are complimentary enough to enhance the story, not distract. The author did well to pull Bray away from Sci-fi long enough to add his Silent Service performance to Crash Dive.
Overall: This is one of my favorite fiction series in my library. I highly recommend this to anyone interested in submarine warfare or WWII naval fiction accounts. Bravo Zulu!

Submarines glide along on their dangerous missions, their crews performing difficult tasks under arduous conditions. The mystique associated with these boats is evidenced by the number of movies and television shows dedicated to the subject. But nowhere else will you find the lighter side of submarine operations - childish pranks, retrieving lost sailors, and even humorous episodes involving the father of the nuclear Navy, Admiral Rickover.

Submarine Life - The Raw Deal
Revisado: 05-02-14
Would you consider the audio edition of Death From Below - Volumes 1 and 2 to be better than the print version?
I can tell you that this is the book that portrays the reality of the United States Naval Submarine Force. As an ex-submariner, I found myself busting a gut while reading (and relating) to the hilarious stories in this book. Del Laughery portrayed the life of a submariner as the way it is.Note: This book is not just for ex-submariners! Del explains the details vividly enough that even NUBS (read the book for definition of word) can envision the story being told. Anyone interested in what happens at sea on a submarine should get this book. Especially if you have friends or family at sea and you want to know what their up to. Get the book and be ready for laughter!!!
What other book might you compare Death From Below - Volumes 1 and 2 to and why?
Nothing compares as I've never read anything that comes this close to getting it right!
What about Barry Campbell’s performance did you like?
Barry had a great solid performance! He even sounded a bit salty when speaking as the Captain!! Kudos!!!
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Yea! I laughed my butt off!!!!
Any additional comments?
Get this book! You'll be glad you did. Be warned though. Just like a submarine deployment, there is crude language throughout.

This book was a great surprise!!
Revisado: 03-05-14
What made the experience of listening to The Lost World the most enjoyable?
I loved this book. It's a classic for good reason. Way before Jurassic Park, there was this book. I wasn't sure if I would like it, but it turned out to be a great surprise. The narration is a bit old as the sound quality isn't crystal clear, but the narrator did an outstanding job with this performance.
What other book might you compare The Lost World to and why?
You could compare this to Journey to the Center of the Earth because of the time period and the dinosaurs.
What does Paul Hecht bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Getting the voices right! He really did do a great job with this book.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
A Jurassic Story with a classic bite!!

Great classic book to include in your library!
Revisado: 03-05-14
Where does Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
This book doesn't rank very high. The story itself is great when you take away the many tedious classifications of fish and plant life included. The book could be shortened by a quarter without of the exhaustive listings. A bit of an uphill climb if you will.
What other book might you compare Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea to and why?
The book would be a good comparison to Journey to the Center of the Earth. Jules Verne loves to include lots of classifications! Great story writer though!!
Which scene was your favorite?
Spoilers!!!
When the Captain was explaining the submarine functions to his captives. Even before that technology existed, much of it was prophesied by Jules Verne. Very exciting!
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Not really.

Revisado: 03-05-14
What did you love best about Ender's Game?
It's a great "little guy" victory story mixed with awesome sci-fi. The creative genius of Orson Scott Card is amazing with this story. It does get pretty dark at times, but not too much.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Ender was my favorite character simply for the fact that the story revolves around him.
What three words best describe Stefan Rudnicki and Harlan Ellison ’s performance?
Disconnected, Jumbled, Distracting
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No.

I liked the book. This is some great science fiction!! The narration could have been much better though.

What did you love best about Scoundrels: Star Wars?
Marc Thompson!! He always brings the Star Wars universe to life with his narration. The story was great as well. Think of it as Oceans 11 meets Star Wars.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Scoundrels: Star Wars?
Spoiler!!!
I liked the scene when the safe was rolling through the streets.
What about Marc Thompson’s performance did you like?
His first person voice impersonations are spot on! Especially when it comes to Han and Lando.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
I wouldn't say that the book moved me.
Any additional comments?
