Historia
When The Sandman, also known as Lord Morpheus - the immortal king of dreams, stories and the imagination - is pulled from his realm and imprisoned on Earth by a nefarious cult, he languishes for decades before finally escaping. Once free, he must retrieve the three “tools” that will restore his power and help him to rebuild his dominion, which has deteriorated in his absence.

still don't like audible dramas
Revisado: 09-01-20
Overall my issue with this "book" is the same i have with all of audibles dramatizations that I've listened to so far. It just feels like something is missing from the content of the book. It feels like i need to have read/listened to the book previously to really be able to enjoy these. I would much prefer just a normal reading of the book with actors to read specific character pieces such as has been done with the later Red Rising books and some of the Enders Game books. These acted out ones just feel like they are missing too much context to me.
As for the book itself I also felt like it was very disjointed. I get that it was a collection of various stories about the main character Morpheus but there didn't really seem to be a central theme or point. Some of the stories I really liked and others I found very pointless.
The performance was amazing, however. I'm a big fan of James McAvoy and he was just as spectacular in this as he is in everything else. All of the other actors did a great job as well so it made the book at least worth listening to. There were some gross sound effects that I could have really done without having them shoved down my ear-holes but that's just another reason i don't really like these dramatizations.

Historia
Laying out all the evidence in the most comprehensive summary ever written about the Ripper, this book, by a London police officer and crime authority, has subjected every theory - including those that have emerged in recent years-to the same deep scrutiny. The author also examines the mythology surrounding the case and provides some fascinating insights into the portrayal of the Ripper on stage and screen and on the printed page. More seriously, he also examines the horrifying parallel crimes of the Düsseldorf Ripper and the Yorkshire Ripper.

catch the facts if you can
Revisado: 11-17-19
Overall I enjoyed this book and I think my issues with it might have been less noticeable if I had read it instead of listening to an audiobook.
My biggest complaint is that there isn't a section of the book that clearly lays out all the evidence complied about Jack at the time if the murders. There is a very detailed account about the difficulties of the case due to conditions and turmoil in the police department and very detailed information about the women's bodies. All other relevant evidence is presented as needed while talking about possible suspects. I found this made some of the conclusions hard to follow specifically as an audiobook because it's hard to know when the author is giving you a factual account of something or quoting some one else's lengthy account. It makes it difficult to follow overall because you don't have evidence to draw your own conclusions amd make judgements on how you feel about a theory being presented. The result is that you have to believe all the theories are wrong because the author says so and you don't have enough information to make your own theory. This also sort of leaves you with the feeling that the author believes you are more than casually aware of the ripper murders before ever picking up the book.
My other issue is the book leaves you with the feeling that there was no point to the book. I picked this one to read specifically because the author doesn't try to solve the murders and instead presents all relevant information. However as I already said he never really coherently gives you all the evidence and instead seems to just be trying to say everyone is wrong. That coupled with the fact that the last section of the book talks about murders that were similar to the ripper case without ever making an argument for how that enlightens us at all leaves you with a since that there was no real coherence to the book.

Audio File Nearly Useless
Revisado: 11-30-16
Would you try another book from Edgar Allan Poe and/or Vincent Price and Basil Rathbone ?
Absolutely
What did you like best about this story?
Its Edgar Allan Poe and Vince Price!
Have you listened to any of Vincent Price and Basil Rathbone ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Yes and its beautiful like always.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
There is nothing wrong with this book itself. Its the audio file that is awful.
Any additional comments?
This is a dream combination of authors and narrators! However the audio file itself is almost useless. There are no titles given for each entry so you simply have to know as a Poe fan which story you are listening to. Also for at least the house of usher section it is not the whole story. I'm aware this audio collection was originally sold my barns and noble so i don't know if something had to be cut out to avoid copy right issues but i'll be returning this book shortly because of the quality of the file.

Anne Rice's richly told novel weaves an irresistible story of two worlds: the witches' world and the vampires' world, where magical powers and otherworldly fascinations are locked together in a dance of seduction, death, and rebirth.

Enchanting but not a Vampire Chronicle
Revisado: 08-01-15
Did Graeme Malcolm do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?
I enjoyed his overall narration and he was a perfect match for the voice of david but i did not like how he voiced other key characters in the story.
Was Merrick worth the listening time?
This book was a great read and is definitely one of Anne Rice's better novels.
Any additional comments?
If you came to this book hoping for the next exciting installment of the vampire chronicle series you might be very disappointed. The book is a good read but aside from the fact the book is narrated by one of our beloved vampires there is maybe a third of the content of the book that actually focuses on them. This book clearly fulfilled a desire of the authors to do a cross over of her two series the vampire chronicles and the mayfairer witches but doesn't really focus on either one.
