Historia
A woman awakes in the morning to find that someone has picked her apartment’s supposedly impregnable door lock and rearranged personal items, even sitting beside her while she slept. The intrusion, the police learn, is a message to the entire city of carnage to come. Lincoln Rhyme and Amelia Sachs are brought in to investigate and soon learn that the sociopathic intruder, who calls himself "the Locksmith”, can break through any lock or security system ever devised.

Historia
New York, 2061: The place called the Pleasure Academy is a living nightmare where abducted girls are trapped, trained for a life of abject service while their souls are slowly but surely destroyed. Dorian, a thirteen-year-old runaway who’d been imprisoned there, might never have made it out if not for her fellow inmate Mina, who’d hatched the escape plan. Mina was the more daring of the two—but they’d been equally desperate.

Historia
Arguably the most important American lawyer of the 20th century, Thurgood Marshall was on the verge of bringing the landmark suit Brown v. Board of Education before the US Supreme Court when he became embroiled in a case that threatened to change the course of the civil rights movement and to cost him his life. In 1949, Florida's orange industry was booming, and citrus barons got rich on the backs of cheap Jim Crow labor with the help of Sheriff Willis V. McCall, who ruled Lake County with murderous resolve....

Anyone who argues that students shouldn't learn about racism throughout the history of the US should be sentenced for committing a crime against human rights to read this book. I live in Lake county and this book makes me even more determined to speak out against the racism that is still rampant in Florida today.

Won't ever buy another book with this narrartor
Revisado: 11-07-12
Would you try another book from Linda Howard and/or Natalie Ross?
Yes for Howard; absolutely NOT for Ross
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
Stories of New Orleans are almost always interesting.
Would you be willing to try another one of Natalie Ross’s performances?
NO. She was so annoying with her sing-song narration that I almost quit listening several times. If I could have given zero stars for the narrator, I would have.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
I enjoyed the story line and the steam value was a plus.

RITA Award winner Robyn Carr is a New York Times and USA Today best-selling author. In this 19th installment of her Virgin River series, Tom Cavanaugh returns home to take over his family’s apple orchard and settle down. Single mom Nora Crane is nothing like the kind of woman he thought he’d fall for—yet he can’t take his eyes off her. And while they have different concepts about family, they soon find out how quickly those ideas can change.

Pleasant little series for light reading
Revisado: 08-07-12
If you could sum up Sunrise Point in three words, what would they be?
Pleasant, predictable, light-weight
If you’ve listened to books by Robyn Carr before, how does this one compare?
I find the entire Virgin River series to be enjoyable for a day at the beach or a plane ride or any other time when light reading can take you to someplace pleasant.. While the story-lines are totally predictable, the characters are very likable and feel like old friends. I will say that the men are (more than?) a tad fantasy-like with their protectiveness of women, combined with a new-age respect for women's rights, and a total selflessness when it comes to pleasing their women sexually! Where were these guys back when I was looking?
Have you listened to any of Therese Plummer’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
It's interesting that when Plummer is speaking as Jack, or Preacher, or any of the other men in the series, I never think of her as anything but male! In the beginning of the series, I was able to tell every guy by their "voices", though as more and more men have been introduced, it has become more difficult to tell Jack from Lief or Collin or Denny, etc. Still, she does a fantastic job with voices!
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I chuckled occasionally.
Any additional comments?
I would tell my friends looking for a pleasant, easy read to pick up any of the Virgin River books!

Historia
Thirty-five years old, fresh off the bus from New York City, and nursing a shattered heart, Anna Pigeon takes a decidedly unglamorous job as a seasonal employee of the Glen Canyon National Recreational Area. On her day off, she goes hiking into the park never to return. Her co-workers think she’s simply moved on - her cabin is cleaned out and her things gone. Anna herself wakes up, trapped at the bottom of a dry natural well, naked, without supplies and no clear memory of how she got into this situation. As she slowly pieces together her memory, it soon becomes clear that someone has trapped her there....

Unbelievable and unrealistic
Revisado: 08-06-12
What disappointed you about The Rope?
I have to agree with Ann of Lake Pleasant, NY and Debra of Amity, OR...there was too much about bodily functions; there were a simply unbelievable series of traumatic events entered into with witless abandon; and (speaking as a psychologist of nearly 30 years who has worked primarily with traumatized individuals) I have to say that Anna's reactions to the piled-on trauma after trauma were unrealistic.
What do you think your next listen will be?
It is likely to be an Alex Delaware or Frank Clevenger or even a Stephanie Plum who-dun-it; though (since I loved the previous Anna Pigeon books in the series) I will try one more (if there are more forthcoming) before I make a final decision about reading more of this series in the future.
Would you listen to another book narrated by Joyce Bean?
Yes. I think she did the best she could with the material. However, I really like Barbara Rosenblat!
What character would you cut from The Rope?
Lots of peripheral park administrators just seemed inserted to underscore what is portrayed as a top-heavy, abusive park system management. While this may be the case, I thought it was belabored without adding much to the storyline.
Any additional comments?
Someone else said they would recommend it to Anna Pigeon fans, and I'd go along with that -- with some reservations. If you are just starting out on this series...read The Rope last as most of the rest of us have done!
