Historia
Opal is a lot of things—orphan, high school dropout, full-time cynic and part-time cashier—but above all, she's a determined to find a better life for her younger brother Jasper. One that gets them out of Eden, Kentucky, a town remarkable for only two things: bad luck and E. Starling, the reclusive nineteenth century author of The Underland, who disappeared over a hundred years ago. All she left behind were dark rumors—and her home. Everyone agrees that it’s best to ignore the uncanny mansion and its misanthropic heir, Arthur. Almost everyone, anyway.

Slow to develop but good
Revisado: 01-05-24
This book was started slow. Then flowed then dragged a little more but it was an interesting story. I liked the characters and the ending did not leave me want more, it was tied up enough to satisfy me.

Historia
One Christmas Eve in a small hollow in Boone County, West Virginia, struggling songwriter Jesse Walker witnesses a strange spectacle: seven devilish figures chasing a man in a red suit toward a sleigh and eight reindeer. When the reindeer leap skyward, taking the sleigh, devil men, and Santa into the clouds, screams follow. Moments later, a large sack plummets back to earth, a magical sack that thrusts the down-on-his-luck singer into the clutches of the terrifying Yule Lord, Krampus.

I liked the main characters because no one was perfect they were all just passionate about their beliefs or what they loved so I was empathetic towards them all.

Historia
Becca still can't remember the night 16-year-old Jessica disappeared from a party, never to be seen again. Which is bad enough (especially since she was supposedly the last person to see Jessica alive), but it's not the worst.... Strange events are making Becca think there's a link between what happened to Jessica 15 years ago and the darkness happening now. With help from her friends and her teenage crush, Daniel, Becca races against time to uncover the truth about Jessica before another 16-year-old girl is doomed to the same fate as Jessica....

Good but predictable
Revisado: 05-18-22
This book was like comfort food. It had just enough spookiness and suspense but the outcome was very predictable. And that’s OK it was a easy listen and I didn’t feel like I was losing any brain cells. The book kept me entertained and interested the whole way through. So I guess the book this job!!
The narration was awesome, January LaVoy is one of my favorite narrators. I actually get books to listen to how she develops the characters.
I recommend this book, and I will continue with the next book in this series.

I thought this was a refreshing easy “read”. It was not heavy or complex it was just fun. I like the narrator’s voice and I like the character. I can’t wait to listen to the next book.

Revisado: 10-02-18
I had to listen to this 2 times to realize I liked it. I first tried to listen as if I was listening to adow. But on second listen I listened to it as a new space in the Adow universe. It is no adobe trilogy but it is a good solid book . I love any new stories from these characters.

Why we think it’s a great listen: Seabiscuit was a runaway success, and Hillenbrand’s done it again with another true-life account about beating unbelievable odds. On a May afternoon in 1943, an Army Air Forces bomber crashed into the Pacific Ocean and disappeared, leaving only a spray of debris and a slick of oil, gasoline, and blood. Then, on the ocean surface, a face appeared....
