Could have been better
Revisado: 12-04-24
The narrator and the writing were beautiful. An introspection into humanity. Some of the lines I wanted to remember for later- beautiful and on point. My biggest problem was the lack of closure not only with the main story line but not within any of the relationships that were examined. I was shocked when the book just ended- without a conclusion. I think some people would like it left that way but I felt very unsatisfied with the ending

Historia
This lush novel, set in 1766 England and America, evokes an era ripe with riot and revolution, from the teeming streets of London to the sprawling grounds of a Virginia plantation. Mack McAsh burns with the desire to escape his life of slavery in Scottish coal mines while Lizzie Hallim is desperate to shed a life of sheltered subjugation to her spineless husband. United in America, their only chance for freedom lies beyond the Western frontier - if they're brave enough to take it.

A powerful story
Revisado: 07-14-24
I don’t usually leave reviews- but this was a story that needed to be told. The writing was so good and the audio performance was stellar. I cried and I laughed and I loved along side the characters- bravo!

Historia
In Ashtown, a rough-and-tumble desert community, the Emperor rules with poisoned claws and an iron fist. He can’t show any sign of weakness, as the neighboring Wiley City has spent lifetimes beating down the people of Ashtown and would love nothing more than its downfall. There’s only one person in the desert the Emperor can fully trust—and her name is Scales. Scales is the best at what she does: keeping everyone and everything in line. As a skilled mechanic—and an even more skilled fighter, when she needs to be—Scales is a respected member of the Emperor’s crew.

Historia
It’s 2788 and only the "handicapped" live on Earth. Eighteen-year-old Jarra is among the one in a thousand people born with an immune system that cannot survive on other planets. Sent to Earth at birth to save her life, she has been abandoned by her parents. She can't travel to other worlds, but she can watch their vids, and she knows all the jokes they make. She's an ape, a throwback, but this is one ape girl who won't give in.

Historia
Growing up on the Navajo Indian Reservation, David Crow and his siblings idolized their dad. Tall, strong, smart, and brave, the self-taught Cherokee regaled his family with stories of his World War II feats. But as time passed, David discovered the other side of Thurston Crow, the ex-con with his own code of ethics that justified cruelty, violence, lies - even murder. A shrewd con artist with a genius IQ, Thurston intimidated David with beatings to coerce him into doing his criminal bidding. David's mom, too mentally ill to care for her children, couldn't protect him.

Very interesting listen
Revisado: 01-26-24
The story was compelling - but you can’t help but feel that the author should have gone no contact- instead of reliving his trauma over and over. Nicely done overall
