Historia
Shocking and controversial when it was first published in 1939, Steinbeck's Pulitzer prize-winning epic The Grapes of Wrath remains his undisputed masterpiece. Set against the background of Dust Bowl Oklahoma and Californian migrant life, it tells of Tom Joad and his family, who, like thousands of others, are forced to travel west in search of the promised land. Their story is one of false hopes, thwarted desires, and broken dreams, yet out of their suffering Steinbeck created a drama that is intensely human, yet majestic in its scale and moral vision.

living ideas
Revisado: 12-19-24
delightful in what's desired of a historical fiction, transporting you back in time. The story is full of living ideas, with a sweet slow pace of deepth. i like how the chapters are broke up into story, and description/reflection of the times of the great depression and dust bowl. excellent reader with many distinct and clear voices, none anoying. disclaimer: The "Christian" culture that runs through the entire story is almost completely un biblical the characters more part of a superstitious religion claiming Christ, and not one character clearly displaying biblical knowledge aside from a quote from psalms. The story may be a reflection of a time, place, and culture in history but it is not a representation of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

life changing insight simple application
Revisado: 07-08-24
bounderies with kids is helpful for me in the trench of parenting, with lack of space for reflection, trying to battel with all the loud values of the world and attempting to distinguish the how and what of the continuous decisions that need to be made as a parent. then how to stick to them in order to accomplish the job of parenting well. this book helps untangle the values and actions we parents must engage with so they can be in harmony and the execution of the dreaded discipline can be done with confidence instead of confusion or guilt. I am a Christian and appreciate the bible references, but this book points out a lot of not so common sense that I would think christians and non Christians can relate to as well. I also really appreciated the examples. this book has been life changing not just for me but my whole family and was an answer to prayer for wisdom.

Historia
Hard times come for all in life, with no real explanation. When we walk through suffering, it has the potential to devastate and destroy, or to be the gateway to gratitude and joy. Elisabeth Elliot was no stranger to suffering. Her first husband, Jim, was murdered by the Waoroni people in Ecuador moments after he arrived in hopes of sharing the gospel. Her second husband was lost to cancer. Yet, it was in her deepest suffering that she learned the deepest lessons about God.

encouragment for maturing Christian
Revisado: 04-29-24
I love the topic, and anyone who reads their bible can see suffering everywhere. it is a great mystery that there can be joy and peace immeasurable in suffering. as a babe in Christ i hear and believe the trials and victories of the saints and wonder how. i acknowledged only by the power of God's spirit. and yet desire to have the freedom of fear and faith to obey to the end and experience that power for myself. to pick up my cross and follow Jesus. suffering is never for nothing talks to that subject, in a very personal practical way. Elizabeth Eliot takes us on a gental reflection of stories and scripture to feed that faith that helps us say yes Lord, I trust you Lord, thank you Lord, you are good Lord so we can be faithful in little and in much. all Christians are called to suffer, but be of good cheer, Jesus has overcome the world.
