Historia
Gangsters and presidents have long captured the American imagination, but how much does the underworld actually affect presidential power? How deep are their “connections”? As Eric Dezenhall reveals in this eye-opening history, in some instances, one couldn’t have functioned without the other. From Franklin Delano Roosevelt to Richard Nixon to Joseph R. Biden, the mob has done presidential dirty work, including attempts to assassinate foreign leaders, harass America’s enemies, and put our chief executives in office.

Spends inordinate amounts of time talking about how you cannot possibly call Joe Kennedy a bootlegger due to his completely totally not bootlegging of Canadian and UK liquor into the USA during prohibition… But because Reagan new a guy in Hollywood in the 50’s working for MCA or since Trump had to buy concrete in the 80’s in NYC (both places backed/owned by the mob) or he talked to a guy who knew a guy who’s brother’s cousin’s uncles dog knew a guy in the mobbed up union, break out the guillotine…. Save your credit for absolutely anything else. Something worthwhile like Murder machine, Detroit Mob Chronicles, or mafia prince.

Al DeMeo will never forget the day in 1992 when a coworker taunted him with a copy of the hot new book Murder Machine, chronicling the horrific criminal life of DeMeo's father, Roy, the head of the most deadly gang in organized crime. The moment sent DeMeo into a psychological tailspin: How could he have spent his life looking up to, and loving, a vicious killer?

Narrator pronunciations of main character names a bit off but otherwise good.

After reading “Murder Machine” about 5 times, I wanted to see Roy Demeo and the Demeo crew from the families perspective. Albert himself all but gives a raving review of “murder machine” himself in the last couple chapters. If you want the rest of the story and all the stuff Albert Demeo only knew tiny parts of, check out “murder machine”. These dudes killed about 10x the most prolific serial killer ever did, at their prime. Crazy story….. was very interesting to see Roy Demeo and how he was viewed by his family. I think they were seriously naive, but that is neither here nor there. They didn’t know what they didn’t know. Like the narrator didn’t now how to pronounce Nino Gaggi’s name, called him Gag-eee….. he was Roy’s boss and a Rather important figure in the story, you’d think you’d ask somebody, if nothing else.

Historia
The Black Mafia is one of the bloodiest crime syndicates in modern US history. From its roots in Philadelphia's ghettos in the 1960s, it grew from a rabble of street toughs to a disciplined, ruthless organization based on fear and intimidation. Known in its "legitimate" guise as Black Brothers Inc, it held regular meetings, appointed investigators, treasurers and enforcers, and controlled drug dealing, loan-sharking, numbers rackets, armed robbery, and extortion.

Amazing what these cats got away with
Revisado: 07-08-24
It is baffling to me how many of these cats were multiple-murderers, some of which went to prison, “found (prison) Islam” gave themselves Islamic-sounding names, then re-interjected themselves into high level politics and presidencies of companies. I think much of the same PC stuff we deal with today played a part in them being able to do so. If Sean Patrick Griffin thought people’s fears of being called the omnipresent “R word” for having his book or making it into a movie, were unfounded in 2006, he’s got to be beside himself in the year 2024 at the weaponization and overuse of that word to the point where it has lost all meaning. Excellent book about a subject and time with little to no previous coverage.

Historia
In the summer of 1944, a handpicked group of young GIs—artists, designers, architects, and sound engineers, including such future luminaries as Bill Blass, Ellsworth Kelly, Arthur Singer, Victor Dowd, Art Kane, and Jack Masey—landed in France to conduct a secret mission. From Normandy to the Rhine, the 1,100 men of the 23rd Headquarters Special Troops, known as the Ghost Army, conjured up phony convoys, phantom divisions, and make-believe headquarters to fool the enemy about the strength and location of American units.

Such great and accomplished men
Revisado: 04-13-24
As with many men of the “greatest generation”, so many of them went on to live amazingly successful lives and careers. What they did in the war, was completely new and novel. I highly recommend the book, I only wish it was a bit longer and the men and unit were honored sooner while more were still alive.

I very much enjoyed this book, especially after reading another book about a Canadian mobster that was eye-wateringly boring and never went anywhere, despite being twice as long. I don’t think you could do anything else to make this book (The Wolfpack) any more enthralling or exciting. I wish it was longer, but you can only do so much with a true story, and adding needless filler just doesn’t cut it. Highly recommended!

In the predawn darkness of D-Day, an elite fighting force struck the first blows against Hitler's Fortress Europe. Braving a hail of enemy gunfire and mortars, bold invaders from the sky descended into the hedgerow country and swarmed the meadows of Normandy. Some would live, some would die, but all would fight with the guts and determination that made them the most famous US Army division in World War II: the 101st Airborne "Screaming Eagles".

Revisado: 03-14-23
George Koskimaki interviewed over 500 men who participated in the D-day invasion of hitler’s “fortress Europe” . In this book you get their experiences in their OWN words, not someone’s interpretation. God bless the late T5 Koskimaki, and all those who served as part of the Greatest Generation. It has been my life’s honor to get to know a few of them. ALL THE WAY!!!

Historia
As the Allies raced to defeat Hitler, four men, all in the same unit, earned medal after medal for battlefield heroism. Maurice “Footsie” Britt, a former professional football player, became the very first American to receive every award for valor in a single war. Michael Daly was a West Point dropout who risked his neck over and over to keep his men alive. Keith Ware would one day become the first and only draftee in history to attain the rank of general before serving in Vietnam. In WWII, Ware owed his life to the finest soldier he ever commanded, a baby-faced Texan named Audie Murphy.

“Greatest generation” a moniker truly earned
Revisado: 07-20-22
I very much enjoyed this book, I’ve enjoyed all of kershaw’s books that I’ve read/listened to thus far. I feel that no generation has ever been more truly deserving of the moniker “the greatest generation”. People who grew up in extreme poverty during the Great Depression, often without power or running water. The main 4-5 men described in this book accomplished feats of daring and bravery I could never begin to put into words. They didn’t do it for medals, or for accolades, they did it for the men BESIDE them. The last hour describes “after the war” and the nightmares, depression and drinking that often accompanied them. It was hard to hear how bad they often struggled. This book should be required reading for high school students, and politicians. These great men (and women) were born at the right time, and made tough as nails through adversity. We owe them a debt of gratitude that can never be repaid.

CIA ruined the book.
Revisado: 07-07-22
In an odd move, they put classical orchestra music in places the CIA didn’t want you to know about. You’d think this would only be very specific parts, but it’s not. As an example “ _ took _ and put it in a _ and gave it to _ to take to _ (a neighboring country)”. It’s absolutely ridiculous, and for the first time ever in over 550+ books, I had to quit listening and give it up. It’s a bummer, because it’s probably a great story in unedited/non-destroyed form, but as with all things they get involved in, government bureaucrats managed to even destroy my enjoyment of this audiobook. At first I thought it was just the hiding of identifying information of people and places, but when it continued at the same level of _ of nearly every other word 2.5 hours in, I had to give up.

What really happened to TWA 800? On the 20th anniversary of the crash, author Jack Cashill reveals shocking new evidence. TWA Flight 800 crashed into the Atlantic shortly after takeoff from JFK Airport on July 17, 1996, killing all 230 passengers onboard. Although initial reports suggested a terrorist attack, FBI and NTSB investigators blamed a fuel-tank explosion. But skeptics have long questioned the official story, and new evidence has surfaced that suggests a widespread conspiracy.

Don’t believe your eyes……
Revisado: 03-26-22
Don’t believe your eyes, the FBI and CIA will tell you what REALLY HAPPENED. 257 witnesses saw what appeared to be a missile, but we cannot have such a thing affect an election, now can we? Especially not if the candidate is a democrat, and certainly not if the candidate is a Clinton….. No worries, the NYT is ready to be the mouthpiece of the government bureaucracies/democrat party (I know, that’s kind of an oxymoron, they’re one in the same) both then, and now. Don’t believe your eyes and ears, they will tell you what you actually heard and saw!

Kevin Fulton was one of the British Army's most successful intelligence agents. Having been recruited to infiltrate the Provisional IRA at the height of the Troubles, he rose its ranks to an unprecedented level. Living and working undercover, he had no option other than to take part in heinous criminal activities, including the production of bombs which he knew would later kill. So highly was he valued by IRA leaders that he was promoted to serve in its infamous internal police - ironically, his job was now to root out and kill informers.
