Historia
The galaxy is doomed. Monkeys may be clever and too stubborn to give up, but Skippy The Idiot Who Got Played knows the harsh truth: this is a fight he can’t win. The odds are not only stacked against him, he was designed not to win this fight. Maybe he can salvage some faint memory of the civilizations that inhabit the galaxy, but those beings are doomed. Doomed. Including the Merry Band of Pirates.

Revisado: 12-24-22
RC Bray is excellent as always. Story wraps up some threads but feels a little incomplete IMO.
Can’t believe I’ve made it through all the books. Given the length may need to restart as I’ve forgotten a lot of the early stuff

Historia
The true story of what took place in Donald Trump’s White House during a disastrous 2020 has never before been told in full. What was really going on around the president, as the government failed to contain the coronavirus and over half a million Americans perished? Who was influencing Trump after he refused to concede an election he had clearly lost and spread lies about election fraud? To answer these questions, Phil Rucker and Carol Leonnig reveal a dysfunctional and bumbling presidency’s inner workings in unprecedented, stunning detail.

If this were fiction, it would be unbelievable that someone so unsuited for the role of president was elected, let alone remained in office. But it happened, and the details were even horrifying than realized.

The Alien Legion has a new mission, and this time, they are working for the enemy. Also against the enemy. Like every operation that Emily Perkins plans, it’s complicated. But plans require good intel, and when the plan falls apart, the Mavericks are in freefall....

There was some good setup and characters like Emily Perkins, Nert Dandurff, Surgun Jates, Captain Scorandum, and hilarious ship names like "Rock-Solid And Suspiciously Convenient Alibi". The Jeraptha and Verd-kris have a lot of potential entertainment value. Unfortunately, it got bogged down in the middle with 15-20 chapters of super-tedious space battle minutiae that I found it hard to care about. At some point, I started skipping chapters to get out of the slog.

More cosmos, less religion
Revisado: 11-27-20
I think I would enjoy the erudite and charismatic NdGT narrating my grocery list or answering machine message. What didn't work for me, which is, probably, a reflection of the letters he receives on the subject, was the volume of religious and afterlife questions. At some point, I was skipping through these hoping to get to more cosmological or astronomical content. Still worth a listen.

I have enjoyed the Expedition Day series and its spinoff Mavericks, so naturally I’d expect a full cast audio drama with amazing actors should be great, right?
As much as I tried liking it the presentation was difficult and I ultimately gave up. The background effects and (especially) music are too overwhelming- I found it difficult to hear to characters. This, combined with the jumping around (like the other books) were too much and I had to return it.

Historia
The human soldiers stranded on the planet Paradise have been recruited into an alien legion to do the dirty jobs that the high-tech species won't do. Their first mission is to kick the enemy off a backwater planet no one cares about. It's a simple assignment, except everyone has a hidden agenda, and the planet could become a deathtrap.

Interesting characters and RC Bray = fun
Revisado: 10-20-19
I loved the Expeditionary Force series and enjoyed the Joe-Skippy-deus ex machina formula for the first four books. But as it stretched to book eight (nine?), it's gotten very tiresome, especially the last couple... meh. I'd be done, except for occasionally brilliant interludes like the Mister Nukey chapter -- (kiss noise).
I took a chance on this one as a spin-off as it gives the author a canvas for doing what he does very well - creating interesting characters and letting them run around and get out of situations. There are spots where it gets bogged down ("Hey, we discovered A THING!" then a few chapters elapse before explanation on its significance), and the galactic polities and duplicity was somewhat confusing -- so I may need to go back and relisten to a few transitions -- there fun (e.g., Surgun Jates, Nert Dander, and the Kristang former-Admiral-whose-name-I-cannot-recall) to keep me engaged. I'm looking forward to the subsequent episodes.
Of course, the narrator, R.C. Bray, is so talented, he could perform my grocery list and it would be amazeballs.

Historia
For his victims, for their families and for the investigators tasked with finding him, the senselessness and brutality of the Golden State Killer's acts were matched only by the powerlessness they felt at failing to uncover his identity. Then, on April 24, 2018, authorities arrested 72-year-old Joseph James DeAngelo at his home in Citrus Heights, Calif., based on DNA evidence linked to the crimes. Amazingly, it seemed, evil finally had a name. Please note: This work contains descriptions of violent crime and sexual assault and may not be suitable for all listeners.

Exceptionally well-done true crime drama
Revisado: 10-20-19
This is not the genre I'd normally purchase, and had it not been for it appearing as a book of the day, might not have noticed it, but I took a chance and was glad I did. The use of real participants in the event narrating was powerful as it conveyed the frustrations and fears that transpired. It's exceptionally well-done.

As consumers of medical news, how can we know whether the article we just read is based on solid science or is just an ill-informed attempt to grab readers? Professor Roy Benaroch of Emory University School of Medicine provides just the direction we need. In 24 fascinating lectures that address the most important health issues of our day - heart health, obesity, longevity, the opioid crisis, the stigma of mental illness, alternative medicine approaches, toxins in the environment, and more - Dr. Benaroch tells us how to recognize the good reporting and the bad.

Another great series by Dr Benaroch
Revisado: 07-09-19
I’m a huge fan of Dr Benaroch’s Grand Rounds courses and was giddy when I saw he had another set out, especially on taking a rational view of medicine in the media. Like the other titles it is a very approachable and informational series of lectures using real works examples and current trends. Very valuable and with Dr Benaroch’s excellent presentation is highly recommended. .

Historia
In 1518, in a small town in Alsace, Frau Troffea began dancing and didn't stop. She danced until she was carried away six days later, and soon 34 more villagers joined her. Then more. In a month more than 400 people had been stricken by the mysterious dancing plague. In late-19th-century England an eccentric gentleman founded the No Nose Club in his gracious townhome - a social club for those who had lost their noses, and other body parts, to the plague of syphilis for which there was then no cure.

Really enjoyed the story and, especially, the narration that helped make it come to life. The only minor detraction from this was the background music added near the end of the chapter.
