Historia
"No killing Goblins." So reads the sign outside of The Wandering Inn, a small building run by a young woman named Erin Solstice. She serves pasta with sausage, blue fruit juice, and dead acid flies on request. And she comes from another world. Ours. It's a bad day when Erin finds herself transported to a fantastical world and nearly gets eaten by a Dragon. She doesn't belong in a place where monster attacks are a fact of life, and where Humans are one species among many. But she must adapt to her new life. Or die.

this series has always had a few undertones of SJW b.s. but...
Revisado: 01-13-25
this book was just too much. stereotypical "I'm a bada** MARINE", Margaret Adam's turns into a whiny and overly-emotional baby when she starts dating Joe. Joe gets even more male apologist and using terms like "mansplaining". I finally turned it off when the whole Adam's sunscreen scene came up and she was crying because she wasn't offered sun screen and had the whole "are you ready for an interracial relationship" talk. this series really took a pathetic turn

Revisado: 11-22-24
love the author, love the series. author seems like a cool guy but the only downside of the series is there is a bit of "white knight" b.s. sprinkled into the writing but it's not too bad and easily looked past and is to be expected when a nerdy type writes a book

Historia
The Bobiverse is a different place in the aftermath of the Starfleet War, and the days of the Bobs gathering in one big happy moot are far behind. There’s anti-Bob sentiment on multiple planets, the Skippies playing with an AI time bomb, and multiple Bobs just wanting to get away from it all. But it all pales compared to what Icarus and Daedalus discover on their 26,000-year journey to the center of the galaxy.

idk man... the last couple of books just haven't really done it for me.
Revisado: 09-06-24
I'm going to preface this with I actually haven't finished the book, I'm roughly 3/4 of the way through but im not actually sure I will finish so here's my review (will update if necessary).
the first 3 books are my favorite books of all time (especially the first one), and I know it must be difficult to recapture lightning in a bottle over and over but the last 2 books are just "okay". the original book came out in 2016 and I think Taylor's political views have gotten a bit more... fervent/extreme and it's leaking into his work. female characters are all extremely intelligent badasses who "wear the pants" (especially looking at the Bridgett character) and the bobs are somewhat submissive and nerdy (they've always been this way but it's been cranked up to 11) and all men with dominant character traits are always painted as "bad" and somehow a female character finds a way to put them in their place. if you spend 5 minutes looking at Taylor's website and pictures of him and his wife, you can see why this is a prominent character trait but it gets *very* old after awhile. if you look at the way he writes FAITH and any religious/political figures, they're always horrible and manipulative people, universally.
on Taylor's website, he states in no uncertain terms that he is writing strictly for the paycheck and im sure 75+% of his audience are nerdy, left leaning atheists who like strong-minded women, and that is completely fine, there is nothing wrong with that whatsoever but I think it pins him in a corner where he's afraid or unwilling to branch out anymore. in the first 3 books he had characters like buttersworth(I think that was his name), Riker was a much more prominent character (strong male that didn't have any submissive character traits), Bridget and whatever Bob she's with (I forget) were more about being in-love with each other and much less about "yes honey, whatever you say honey. oh, you said jump? how high, my dear?". I think he's relying a bit too much on his formula, which is you're trying to maximize dollars and minimize effort, probably a good idea but you're going to lose some audience along the way.
finally, so far there has been precisely zero space battles in this book (only 3/4 of the way through but there's been absolutely zip as far as space battles) and a whole LOT of space opera. in the first 3 books, there was a lot of R&D, new ships, new guns, new tech, etc etc. in the previous 2 books it's been a LOT of talking and interpersonal conflict. one thing I liked a lot about the first 3 books is there was a bunch of little skirmishes throughout the book and then usually a larger scale battle towards the end and this book is just talking, and more talking, and dragon sex mixed in. finally (for real finally), I feel like there's been a big missed opportunity with the gamers, that would be a fun world of the bobs to delve into but has gotten very little screentime overall.
as I said, Taylor has stated in no uncertain terms that this is purely for cash. I think pre-2016 when he still was a computer programmer and doing this more as a labor of love, he was willing to step outside of his formula a bit and I think he has lost a lot of that in recent years. combine that with his relationship and political views leaking heavily into his work, I think that my favorite series of all time will become an easy "pass" in future iterations if he doesn't make serious effort to make the series interesting again and not rely on the exact same thing over and over like Craig Alanson does.

too much absolute nonsense
Revisado: 04-25-24
#1 the sniper that was able to set up in an abandoned apartment with the perfect spot overlooking the restaurant that everyone but the main character was informed about only 30 minutes prior. fine, I can deal with that amongst many other silly "coincidences". the final straw for me was the thieves/murderers breaking into the DA's house and the kid sends up a little balloon to the guys apartment that says "the bad men are here, please help" within 10 seconds of the break in. absolutely nonsense

this one is a big "meh" for me.
Revisado: 12-07-23
it's painful to say this because I absolutely LOVE this series but this one kinda sucked... bad. #1- the distinct lack of "adult" language. Larson used words like "butt" and "rump" in place of more adult words, which is fine but i find it very difficult to believe that a grizzled mercenary that's been fighting aliens for over 100 years would say "I kicked my troops in the rump to get them moving". #2 the story goes NOWHERE and every character has been neutered, it's all like they have suddenly morphed into the Disney version of themselves. no grizzled hard veterans of the stars here. #3 Graves has completely changed his character, he used to be a calm, cool, and collected leader and now he's just whiny. #4 Boyette REALLY dropped the ball with the voices in this book. I understand a slip up here and there but many of the characters have completely different voices (Claver, Graves, and Leeson stand out the most, but there are others). a huge miss for me, I don't think I'm going to even finish this one

Revisado: 11-10-23
let me start by saying this book was SO much better than that hot garbage that book 5 was. Gibbs is back and he's old and it's like the world has been thrown back in time a couple of hundred years. very much an old west style book and it worked really really well in this series. Gibbs was always my favorite character in the series and I really hope there's a follow-up book to his story... maybe one that's not 10 years after the originals but 1 or 2. I'd love to hear more of how he became the grizzled old man he is
