Today, with prices in the hundreds of millions for individual artworks, and billionaires' collections among the most conspicuous and liquid of their assets, crime is more rampant than ever in this largely unregulated universe. Increased prices and globalization have introduced new levels of fraud and malfeasance into the art world—everything from "artnapping," in which an artwork is held hostage and only returned for a ransom, to forgery and tax fraud.

Probably good, but not what I wanted

I DNFed this book. While it certainly has commendable qualities, the simple fact was that it wasn’t what I was looking for. I expected a rich exposé but instead this book reads more like a compilation. “So then this crime was committed, and then this crime was committed, and then this crime was committed…” just a list with very detailed points. Now if that’s what you’re after then I would recommend this. There were definitely fun parts about it. But I was looking for something else, something more like an investigation into how art crimes paid for some criminal enterprise or something.
Note that I did return it after listening to one hour so maybe the rest of the book was different.
