Historia
Edith and Ashley have been best friends for over forty-two years. They’ve shared the mundane and the momentous together: trick or treating and binge drinking; Gilligan’s Island reruns and REM concerts; hickeys and heartbreak; surprise Scottish wakes; marriages, infertility, and children. As Ash says, “Edi’s memory is like the back-up hard drive for mine.”

How does she write exactly what’s been experienced and so completely?
Revisado: 12-13-24
It’s just such a beautiful and real story about the all-consuming effort of love. What stood out is; first love then loss and then grief. The entire journey of dying is, highlighting living. Catherine Newman is becoming my favorite writer. She and I are mental-mates. I’d love to have coffee with her or, a margarita.

Historia
Two teenagers, a Greek Cypriot and a Turkish Cypriot, meet at a taverna on the island they both call home. In the taverna, hidden beneath garlands of garlic, chili peppers and creeping honeysuckle, Kostas and Defne grow in their forbidden love for each other. A fig tree stretches through a cavity in the roof, and this tree bears witness to their hushed, happy meetings and eventually, to their silent, surreptitious departures. The tree is there when war breaks out, when the capital is reduced to ashes and rubble, and when the teenagers vanish.

Compelling
Revisado: 12-29-22
The writing is utterly insightful and the interwoven theme uniting plants and animals is poignant and beautiful. The imagery and feeling took my breath away at times. This is an important book with delicate subtlety.

Historia
For years, rumors of the "Marsh Girl" have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand.

Exquisite Writing
Revisado: 09-01-21
This story is most beautifully written. The figurative language, nature v human metaphors and emotional intelligence is stunning. Thank you Ms. Owens for such a work as this. I knew that it had to be the author who performed the roles on audiobook. You can just hear the total understanding of each character and you can feel the chosen words, deep within your own soul as you listen. Perfection!
