Historia
What if Mary Bennet’s life took a different path from that laid out for her in Pride and Prejudice? What if the frustrated intellectual of the Bennet family, the marginalized middle daughter, the plain girl who takes refuge in her books, eventually found the fulfillment enjoyed by her prettier, more confident sisters? This is the plot of The Other Bennet Sister, a debut novel with exactly the affection and authority to satisfy Austen fans.

Mary Bennet takes center stage!
Revisado: 03-04-25
The story of the middle Bennet sister, Mary, is fully examined and told with intelligence and sympathy. A very engaging listening experience! This one will be one of my comforting repeats. If you’re a Jane Austen fan, give this book a read AND a listen. You won’t be disappointed!

These mysteries are a guilty pleasure of mine. I just love the audio versions and count this reader as one of my favorites. Many desultory tasks and tedious miles have whizzed by as I have listened. Bravo, ladies!

Historia
January 1910. A journalist has been killed in a suspicious blaze. Everything points to a group of suffragettes, but the apparent culprit insists she is innocent. When Lady Hardcastle receives a letter from a suffragette requesting her urgent help, the retired spy turned sleuth knows only she stands between an accused young woman and the gallows. Evidence at the scene makes Lizzie Worrel’s innocence difficult to believe, and with the police treating it as an open-and-shut case of arson, Lady Hardcastle faces a barrage of resistance as she tries to dig out the truth.

Historia
September 1909, and Lady Hardcastle and her maid, Florence, have been invited to Lord Riddlethorpe’s country estate for a week of motor racing and parties. They both agree that it sounds like a perfectly charming holiday. But when one of the drivers dies in a crash during the very first race, they discover that what seemed like an uncharacteristic error in judgement may have a more sinister explanation...

Historia
William Shakespeare, the most celebrated poet in the English language, left behind nearly a million words of text, but his biography has long been a thicket of wild supposition arranged around scant facts. With a steady hand and his trademark wit, Bill Bryson sorts through this colorful muddle to reveal the man himself.

Bill Bryson never disappoints!
Revisado: 09-20-21
Engaging and thoroughly researched book on the life and work of someone we think we know. As a secondary teacher, I’ve taught Romeo and Juliet and A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and I’ve studied Shakespeare in specific graduate courses to broaden my learning and understanding of the man and his times. Bryson’s work is accurate and enlightening. I’ve added a couple of wrinkles to my brain! Thanks for taking on the Bard!

Juliet Stevenson Becomes Austen’s Characters
Revisado: 11-02-19
Jane Austen’s works are as relevant and witty today as they were two hundred years ago, but her readers/listeners already know that. But what they may not know is the talent of Juliet Stevenson. As an audiobook listener, I have my favorite readers—Jim Dale, Rob Inglis, Davinia Porter, etc., and now Juliet Stevenson. She is brilliant as both male and female characters. Her Miss Bates is spot on just as is her rendering of Emma, Mr. Woodhouse, Mrs. Elton, Harriet Smith, and Mr. Knightly as well as all the others. Bravo! I’m going to start it again. What a pleasure!

Historia
Fifth in the legendary Lymond Chronicles, The Ringed Castle leaps from Mary Tudor's England to the barbaric Russia of Ivan the Terrible. Francis Crawford of Lymond moves to Muscovy, where he becomes adviser and general to the half-mad tsar. Yet even as Lymond tries to civilize a court that is still frozen in the attitudes of the Middle Ages, forces in England conspire to enlist this infinitely useful man in their own schemes.

New Narrator
Revisado: 05-30-19
An unabashed fan of the Lymond Chronicles, I was disappointed to see a different narrator from the audiobooks for volumes 2-5. (I had already purchased book five from another provider and listened to the book all the way through except for the very last chapter which was missing!) However, I was thrilled to find volume five on Audible. Even though a new narrator always takes getting used to, I was soon enthralled with the story, listening and re-listening to various parts as I often do with this series. Monteath renders each character’s voice well and is convincing. Thanks for adding this series to your catalog. Dunnett was one of the best!
