Historia
Everyone expected Violet Sorrengail to die during her first year at Basgiath War College-Violet included. But Threshing was only the first impossible test meant to weed out the weak-willed, the unworthy, and the unlucky. Now the real training begins, and Violet’s already wondering how she’ll get through. It’s not just that it’s grueling and maliciously brutal, or even that it’s designed to stretch the riders’ capacity for pain beyond endurance. It’s the new vice commandant, who’s made it his personal mission to teach Violet exactly how powerless she is–unless she betrays the man she loves.

Wow just no..
Revisado: 12-29-23
I listened to both these books because two of my good friends, who usually give good recommendations, really liked them. I am severely doubting their choice of books now. There was some world building and a plot line I was hoping would go somewhere in the first book that made me hopeful. The lack of character development with the side characters and the terrible and continually whiny main character made just finishing the second book hard. Probably would not have finished the book if it wasn’t audio and we weren’t on a 16 hr road trip. It’s was a raunchy, poorly written, dime store romance loosely covered by the mirage of being a fantasy fiction book. Please don’t waste your time if you like true fantasy books and enjoy a plot line and good characters that actually develop.

Should you read the book?… And find out the little bit more about what is possible
Revisado: 09-15-22
Short answer is yes. Slightly longer answer is. good solid story, told by interweaving narrative and research. I’m is in attaining even though I studied the subjects both physiological and cognitive my entire adult life. I’ve learned quite a few things; new items and different perspectives on previous knowledge. Recommended for serious outdoor professionals, military, and endurance athletes hobby or serious.

Thoroughly enjoy her style and the characters. She has such a way of bringing them alive and bringing the emotion into the Telling.

Poor substitute for NYT digest pulled 1/1/2022
Revisado: 02-12-22
Audible recently (1/1/2022) dropped the WaPost and NYT digests from their catalog. I’ll be transitioning full time to NPR / NPROne app and BBC radio for my listening to news. A real shame as the Two Digests were really well done. Despite some overlap it was good to get different viewpoints from WP and NYT. Poor on production and not nearly the breadth of topics that we once enjoyed.

Historia
Decades before the American Revolution, Benjamin Franklin lamented that English settlers were constantly fleeing over to the Indians - but Indians almost never did the same. Tribal society has been exerting an almost gravitational pull on Westerners for hundreds of years, and the reason lies deep in our evolutionary past as a communal species. The most recent example of that attraction is combat veterans who come home to find themselves missing the incredibly intimate bonds of platoon life.

Great content and author. Some skippy spots on recording
Revisado: 07-15-21
Great content and a fan of this author. And highly recommend this book. Interesting perspective on interactions between folks and especially how he posits that ‘recovery ‘ from PTSD for veterans is linked to how accepted they are when coming home. Not a ‘thank you for your service’ quiet awkward silence but a bon a fide appreciation for the efforts and here’s how we hear you and help you fold back in to society. Would definitely like to see how appreciative folks are after the town-hall yearly speaking out series.

Historia
When we think about the future of war, the military and Washington and most everyone gets it backwards. We think in terms of buying single military systems, such as fighter jets or aircraft carriers. And when we think about modernizing those systems, we think about buying better versions of the same things. But what really matters is not the single system but "the battle network"—the collection of sensors and shooters that enables a military to find an enemy system, target it, and attack it.

Good overview and make the case in Boeckman‘s in emerging technologies
Revisado: 01-23-21
This book came highly recommended by friend, Peers, and leaders in the military. At the beginning I thought it was nothing new but changed my tune about halfway through. The Internet of things is pretty far off even for the civilian and tech sector but he makes a great case for why the military and government should care in defense of the nation. Without getting too political he shared some insider knowledge from working with Senator McCain. I would’ve liked to heard more about the limit of the best quantity of data versus where we are with the data science, and some of the same problems that China is having (as the greatest competitor in the space)... is that no small feat. Overall, highly recommend for anyone interested in the future of warfare, operations in the information environment, and improving our national security.
