Historia
When 14-year-old Zoe Johnson doesn't come home on a Monday night in early December, the alarm bells in Kings Lake Central police station do not ring straight away - after all, she's from the Dockmills, one of the toughest estates in the town. But for Detective Sergeant DC Smith, due to retire in just three weeks' time, there are some strange echoes of the case that has haunted him for the past 13 years. Maybe it's simply his over-developed sense of irony, or maybe, in his final days as a police officer, Smith must look once more into the eyes of a serial killer.

A story about a man. don't we all have a story
Revisado: 02-04-25
In the workplace, no matter what or where, the personalities differ, you're either valued, or not. You know the person in your workplace, or perhaps it is a woman.
D.C. Smith is that man, decades of experience in police work, often failing to comply with direct orders, but NOT a loose cannon.
This story I've concluded is written in such a way that we'd see a headline about a missing young teen in our own newspaper or local news.
But, as we're unique. It is the back story, also about a calendar and clock running far too fast.
I had to finish it (the book) today. I felt for all involved. then, the orator and author manage to dictate our emotions.
What is so wonderful than a book we won't let go of.
Brilliant! Simply brilliant.

This is DC Smith's third investigation with the Diver and Diver Associates agency. They have been asked by a member of Norfolk's aristocracy to look into the tragic death of her younger brother, Freddie, the late Lord Thorpe of the title. The inquest verdict was of misadventure, but it isn't long before Smith begins to suspect there has been a serious miscarriage of justice.

Perfection on all levels
Revisado: 01-12-25
I felt sad when the message ending the story came across.
I'm going back and re-listening to the earlier books, hoping a new one will be available sooner rather than a long lapse.
What a remarkable story, how human the characters became. Glancing up on the screen, I see the book ran over 14 hours.
Impossible to believe that now that it's concluded.
Savor this as you would something you enjoy. It's eloquent, sensitive, dramatic and fearful,
The narrator MUST NEVER BE REPLACED. I loved the narration as I did the facets of this novel.
What a find this series is. It is not geared for a particular gender.
My only suggestion, is to begin with book #1, come to know the characters as they'll become your friend.

Historia
Everyone in my family has killed someone. Some of us, the high achievers, have killed more than once. I’m not trying to be dramatic, but it is the truth. Some of us are good, others are bad, and some just unfortunate. I’m Ernest Cunningham. Call me Ern or Ernie. I wish I’d killed whoever decided our family reunion should be at a ski resort, but it’s a little more complicated than that.

twice was the charm for me
Revisado: 09-21-23
Yes, I read the book on my kindle.
What I didn't do, was SAVOR the words, the first time.
The story line was perfect, but my impatience I needed to know who was the Murderer.
NO.
The next time I went to the book I took it to the Audible level.
Rory Kinnear is brilliant. FULL STOP.
Audible let me pick up so much of what I'd missed the first time.
If you enjoy a laugh at the human nature, we all share,
and if you love a brilliant 'who did it' this is indeed it.

The "pig," in fact, is Gary Beech, a policeman not exactly beloved by the good people of the village. Although Agatha has every intention of leaving matters to the police....

I'd seen the motion picture, several times
Revisado: 01-08-23
The 'book was better', DOES NOT APPLY IN THIS CASE.
Though I listened through the Audible, waiting for some great finale.
I did NOT happen,
I'll never get those hours back again,
I'm doing you a favor,
See the motion picture, yes its dated, but c'mon, Hitchcock had his hand in it.

Historia
“I’m sorry but the answer’s no.” Reluctant author, Anthony Horowitz, has had enough. He tells ex-detective Daniel Hawthorne that after three books he’s splitting and their deal is over. The truth is that Anthony has other things on his mind. His new play, a thriller called Mindgame, is about to open at the Vaudeville Theater in London’s West End. Not surprisingly, Hawthorne declines a ticket to the opening night. The play is panned by the critics. In particular, Sunday Times critic Margaret Throsby gives it a savage review, focusing particularly on the writing.

we all have a story and most likely its a secret
Revisado: 11-30-22
The wait time for this novel was moving at a snails pace.
When it finally dropped into my Audible and Kindle, it was like a ride on the Bullet Train and there was no getting off.
Worth the wait, ABSOLUTELY,
I felt as though I was running alongside,
Laughed out loud, waking a sleeping cat,
It was an adventure, an escape with people who now are more relaxed with one another and yet their chemistry often like oil and water.
I did not want it to end.
Still annoyed, it did.
