Of all the stories written in this series, I expected Cliff's story to be different from the usual 'black guy/girl' trope, except instead of killing him/her off, you switched it to returning him to 'normal'. Really?!

This writer was on a list of authors whose books I wanted to read so I thought I'd try this one available through the Romance Package.

Big mistake.

I kept hoping the female protagonist would stop whining b but, no, for more than half the book she drummed on with her 'woe is m me'. I finally couldn't take it anymore. I understand the 'Cinderella' trope used to fuel this story but the constant pity party was just too much.

The story was like an enticing drink I gulped down only to be left with a flat taste in my mouth. True, it was the story I'd been waiting to read--the wedding of Edward/Theodore 'Ted' Forrester and Donna Parnell--but the larger, overall storyline didn't seem to advance.

After having read the other books in this series, perhaps my expectations were too high. The male protagonist appeared too needed with his constantly spouts of 'I love you' and 'I want to protect you' throughout the majority of the story. It was as if the author didn't have enough of a story so she decided to add these to flesh it out. A pity because the story, and the narrator, was just what kept my interest going.

The story started out good and ended abruptly, something I'd never expected from this author. I feel as if the rug was yanked out from under my feet.

I waited, with baited breath, for the release of the final part of this trilogy series so perhaps my expectations were high. It seems they were too high: this trilogy felt like a regurgitation of her Circle trilogy.

I always look forward to a Nalini Singh book because it never fails to engage my interest, just as this book has done. So far, I've had it for two days and have already listened to it twice.

In my opinion, there wasn't enough character development. It seemed as if the male and female protagonists were more interested in hopping into bed than aything else; as if it was the universal panacea to their problems.

This book was so far under my expectations that I had to force myself to finish it. It was so contrived with such a poor storyline that I felt embarrassed. Max, the heroine, has to be one of the dimmest, bigoted, egotistical characters I had ever read. The majority of the story was about connived scenarios in her mind that she imposed on Treat, the hero. Half the time, I wanted to smack her so her mind could slide into the right slot. The author has the ability to write a good story she just needs to write the 'right' story.

It's sad but Iris Johansen's heroines have fallen into the habit of being formulaic: women with quasi-toughness that come off as just plain stupid. Teresa/Allie behaves like a spoiled child as she tries asset her independence. It's a wonder that Mandak doesn't put her over his knee. But he's not too smart either giving into her childish tantrums whenever she wants her way. Ms. Johansen is far too talent to write at this juvenile level.
