Historia
Just when everything at the Poor Relation Hotel seems to be running smoothly, Sir Philip brings in another poor relation, Mrs. Budge. When Sir Philip presents his paramour, Lady Fortescue swears great oaths and says the woman is probably related to half the costermongers in London and certainly does not possess one rich relative. Mrs. Budge does nothing but eat all day and refused to do any work around the hotel. Worst of all, Miss Tonks seems to be taking the romance between Sir Philip and Mrs. Budge quite hard.

The Unsinkable Sir Phillip
Revisado: 05-11-23
Loved every minute of the story. Arabella and the Earl of Denby made a beautiful and touching couple. I hope Miss Tonks ends up with Mr. Davy. Even the Ms Budge's story arc worked for me. Now, let me get to my favorite character, Sir Phillip. The writer manages to make his wily and naive in this story. He doesn't get credit for his matchmaking skills. Can't wait to listen to the next book.

Historia
The poor relations, those genteel paupers of society who live on little more than their dignity, have banded together and started The Poor Relation hotel, hoping to be bought out by their embarrassed relations - but as the hotel prospered, they began to enjoy the fruits of their labor. Now once more they are in need of funds. To stoop to crime in their days of poverty was one thing, but to turn to it again when they have enjoyed a certain amount of success is quite another. But they all agree: the hotel must go on.

So Good...Full of Laughs
Revisado: 09-04-22
This book was a bit different from book 1. I actually thought MsTonks was going to be the love interest but oh well. Cassandra was a marvelous heroine and Lord Eston rose to the challenge again and again. My favorite scenes where the robbery, Cassandra revealing that the highway robber kissed her to the Poor Relation crew, the rat at dinner, Mr Davenport's conversation with his man of business, and the rescue scene. On to the next book 😊

Historia
Life is not easy for the poor relations of England’s upper crust, but fate and clever schemes bring them together. Lady Fortescue and Colonel Sandhurst hatch a plan: What if they were to transform her decrepit Bond Street home into a posh hotel, offering their guests the pleasure of being waited upon by nobility? With the help of other down-and-out aristocrats, they do just that, and London’s newest hotel, The Poor Relation, is born. The establishment is an immediate hit with London’s most illustrious citizens, save the Duke of Rowcester....

Left until my stomach hurt
Revisado: 08-31-22
This story has everything! It's an ensemble cast. It's got romance, a murder mystery or at the very least a mystery, a villain, heroes, and last but not least Sir Philip!
Sir Phillip's shenanigans kept me in tears laughing. S/o to the story about the gambling guest and the money in the sofa 😭😭 also his assistance in getting a French chef.
I love the authenticity of the story's commentary on the Regency period and its opulence and horrors.
Highly recommend

Revisado: 05-18-22
I've been an RLM fan for a while and Playing for Keeps was one of my first reads by her. After stumbling upon PfK while browsing for something different to read, I could help but immediately start listening. I was up half the night puttering around the house and laughing at Jason and Hailey's shenanigans. It almost ended too soon. The tension flows throughout the book without becoming annoying thanks to the author not forcibly keeping the MCs apart physically. You feel the attraction and really get to see the relationship develop from friends to lovers. I would definitely recommend this book for anyone who loves romantic comedies and the NYYs.

Not exactly enemies to lovers. More like wary maiden and philanderer to lovers. They added in a pretend dating trop and a secret baby to top it off. Overall a good listen. I did find the will they won't they a little frustrating, especially the second time they broke up. I was pleasantly surprised to note the MC does see a therapist about his issues because it seems a healthier way to address past traumas in stories besides just telling the heroine your life story.

Unexpectedly Good
Revisado: 10-24-20
This was surprisingly good. Even though I love a good boss falls for employee story, you never know how many hoops they will make them run through before they get together and they always seem to make the heroine detest the guy but secretly have the hots for him. Not so with this book. Even though she rightfully questions his motives after their weird first meeting, she eventually admits to her desire and the reason they can't be together. This is the part that is going to upset the romantic traditionalists, but yes there some mild cheating involved. Her slowly growing relationship with the hero midway through the book is heartwarming. His maneuvering and also submission to the heroine had me cheering. This is probably the best CW book I've ever read. Highly recommend.

Diehard HQN fan and happened to stumble upon this collection of books from all my favs. This is my second book with this narrator and I'm not gonna lie....not a fan of the fake accent. I think he should settle for a husky voice and leave the rest to the imagination.

Amaryllis Lark is one of the best psychic detectives on St. Helen's, the Earth colony recently cut off from the mother planet, yet not so very different from home. Lucas Trent, the rugged head of Lodestar Exploration, isn't keen on the prim type - and from her crisp business suit to her cool evaluation of his request to bust a corporate thief, beautiful Amaryllis is excruciatingly proper. But when a bold hunch heats up into a twisting murder investigation, by-the-book Amaryllis must let her guard down and break some rules.

How could Eby Ruin One of My Favorite Books!?!
Revisado: 11-20-18
I listened to the sample and it sounded fine. I pre-ordered and downloaded the book as soon as I woke up this morning
I get five minutes into the book and I've already tried speeding the narrator up and down to make the characters sound right. It's not working :-(
Most of JAK's female and male characters fall along the same lines. I've never heard them be voiced this nasally and dramatic. Add in the huffy and pompous way the male sounds in the first convo doesnt bode well for the rest of the book.
I haven't waited years for this book for it to sound so awful!

Pirate of her dreams
Revisado: 11-20-18
I loved the by play between these two. It was vulnerable but not an exposition of each others feelings that's so common nowadays. Instead we get to hear about them in their own words in a way that feels natural when you're just getting to know someone. David felt like an 9 year old. He wasn't pulled into their drama and he had a healthy, caring relationship with his father. The narrator did a good job with all the voices.

What a waste! Extremely poor narration...
Revisado: 07-06-17
First let me say that I absolutely LOVE this story. I own in both in print and ebook versions. I was hoping to add this version to my stockpile. I've been a little disappointed by the narration in a few of the recent JAK audiobook offerings (ex Guinevere Jones series) but I took a risk. This is a story with very rich characters and I could tell from the sample and the first 30 mins that the narrator wasn't going to cut it. Her voice had potential but the delivery was so FLAT that I couldn't listen any longer. It is literally one step above voice read text. I'm so disappointed that this one didnt work out.
