Who am I? This question holds great significance, and the answer is defining a generation and impacting eternity. Martyn Iles, the Executive CEO of Answers in Genesis, masterfully equips this generation with truth and hope providing a compelling biblical apologetic on this issue of identity in his book, Who Am I? The freedom to create or choose your own identity is being normalized by our culture. This self-created worldview leads to self-worship. According to Iles, this age of identity “is immunizing a generation against a sense of their sinfulness and desperate need before God.

Amazing approach to sharing the Gospel
Revisado: 04-23-25
I loved this book, found it very convicting and at the same time a beautiful answer to questions I have had to learn over years of my walk with Christ. I highly recommend this book for young or new Christians, or parents trying to find a way to articulate their walk to their teens who are being exposed to the culture of the world.

Historia
Henry and Jason led normal lives in Seattle before they were abducted to another world. Their kidnapper, the vain, self-styled god Dolos, refuses to send them back unless they can accomplish an impossible task. Oddly, Dolos doesn't seem to care if they succeed or not. Luckily, Henry and Jason studied Historical European Martial Arts (HEMA) on Earth. Unfortunately, a Japanese American EMT and a geeky IT programmer don't have many other useful skills on a sword-and-sorcery world like Ludus.

Logical Consistency is Nonexistant
Revisado: 07-08-24
Main characters are the best thing about this book. They're decent, not too dumb with their powers and bring some straight man humor about the absurdity of their situation to the story.
Harem wouldn't be intolerable if every female character wasn't a condescending know it all. They talk to the mcs like they're redheaded step children, but then profess how much they like them.
The decision of the main characters to join a clan that manipulates, insults and ultimately sends them to their deaths was too infuriating to handle. Everyone knows they've been on the planet for less than a month but has absolutely unhinged reactions any time they make a social faux pas, but these guys chooses to stay with them for .... reasons? The author thought it would be cool, idk, it's stupid as a hell.

Historia
Humans have been pushed to the brink of extinction by an ever-evolving demonic threat. Portals are opening faster than ever, Towers are bursting into the skies, and Dungeons are being mined below the last safe havens of society. The demons are winning. Quest Academy stands defiantly against them as a place to train the next generation of Heroes. The Guild Association is holding the line but is in dire need of new blood and the powerful abilities they could bring to the battlefront. To be the saviors that humanity needs, they need to surpass the limits of those that came before them.

Sloppy editor or scatterbrained author
Revisado: 09-25-23
This book tries to be a little bit of everything and ends up being mediocre at it all.
It's too mature for YA, too juvenile in style and content for adults. How old is this kid? Cause he reads like a twelve year old which makes all the harem elements jarring and gross.
It's either a magic academy book, a dystopia scifi, or crafting, depending on the chapter, but never fleshes out anything enough to be a truly unique take on any of that.
What it is definitely not is a progression fantasy because the main character can't progress if they're powerful and amazing at everything and have no personal flaws or social obligations holding them back and everyone loves them and immediately trusts them no matter what.
I have a lot of very specific gripes about the world building, but let's just say none of it holds together or has any logical consistency. Each chapter reads like the author just saw someone else's story, thought that it was cool and decided to add it to his stuff. What this story needs more than anything is a ruthless editor.

Historia
On April 23, 1984, in a packed press conference room in Washington, DC, the secretary of health and human services declared “The probable cause of AIDS has been found.” By the next day, “probable” had fallen away, and the novel retrovirus later named HIV became forever lodged in global consciousness as “the AIDS virus.” Celia Farber, then an intrepid young reporter for SPIN magazine, was the only journalist to question the official narrative and dig into the science of AIDS.

Very Engaging
Revisado: 05-08-23
This book does a very good job of looking down on no opinion except those people who won't have a honest discussion. Though at some points names, dates and locations can get a bit jumbled (maybe more of a problem from an audio standpoint) the overall narrative and perspective keeps the story flowing and its not difficult to reorient yourself.

Amazing Worldbuilding
Revisado: 02-03-23
This was a phenomenal book and though it was long I thought it had good pacing. The main character is a sympathetic driven individual with a whole arc of growth that correlates with the themes that the authors seems to be weaving into this book.
The side characters are individuals who have their own backgrounds, feelings, and motivations that weave into the larger story and themes. No one is a cardboard cutout.
The world building is the largest draw of this story, though if you're not the type to enjoy expansive colorful descriptions this might not be the book for you. The author has clearly put a lot of effort into not only creating the world but into finding the right ways the describe it to the audience. Revealed through the perspective and growth of the main character the world unfolds at what feels like a natural pace with hints of deeper mysteries and a plot of a grander scale that grows to the climax of the story.

If you skip every part with the new brain training and associated character the story loses absolutely nothing and moves at an okay pace.

The Good, the Bad, the Ugly
Revisado: 03-16-22
The Good : Good world building and pretty solid fight and dungeon dynamics, and an interesting take on the genre
The Bad : the main character is a bowl of oatmeal, wholesome but bland. In the context of his upbringing I could forgive it in the beginning, but it doesn't really change. All other characters are cardboard cutouts that the author just moves around for the convenience of the story.
The Ugly: Isa, the main female character of the book. She's whiny, entitled, clingy, abusive and her narration voice does her overall awful character no favors.

It’s not easy making the career jump from office-supplies-store middle manager to heroic interdimensional adventurer. At least, Jason tries to be heroic, but it's hard to be good when all your powers are evil. He’ll face off against cannibals, cultists, wizards, monsters...and that’s just on the first day. He’s going to need courage, he’s going to need wit, and he’s going to need some magic powers of his own. But first, he’s going to need pants.

MC is devoid of character development....
Revisado: 01-11-22
...and that's a problem because he's a jersey. He's a preachy, self-congratulating, poly-sci atheist. That would be fine for "stranger in a strange land" style character arc. But that isn't what the author chooses to do.
The best example of what kind of person this character is, how his vaunted atheist, socially conscious morals are reflected in his actions is comes mid mark in the book.
The MC approaches a background character with an apology for being a jerk. This background character is, in this authors own words, about 16 years old, has been trained since childhood to fight life and death battles, has just failed a major exam that all that training has been for, has failed to make the important social connections that his family might need for the coming monster surge, and has been repeatedly embarrassed by the MC in front of all his peers.
The kid rejects the apology in the spirit which is was given. The grown adult MC approaches this kid maybe at the lowest point in his life and embarrasses him in public as a political theater move to impress and gain access to the elite of society.
The hypocrisy and cruelty of this action actually surprised me. Sure the kid was a spoiled noble, but the "hero" using deliberate personal cruelty to gain societal power seems to be more indicative of his morals than his giving away something that cost him nothing in time, effort or energy.
TLDR- MC thinks kicking kids while they're down for social points is cool cause he doesn't like stratified social structures.
