Historia
Valarie thought she was living a fairytale–a whirlwind romance in college, an engagement, plans for the wedding of her dreams, and her happily ever after waiting at the end. Love after heartbreak
Revisado: 04-22-25
What you’ll find in I’ve Said Love:
Main characters jaded by past heartbreak 👩🦰👱♂️💔…
… asked to plan their best friends’ wedding (pick venue, taste test cakes, try on bridal dresses, etc.) 👰🏻♀️🤵🏻♂️…
… while living far apart so they communicate mostly by phone📱…
… which leads to a delicious slow burn friends to more! 💞❤️🔥
This is the second book in the series and the events in this story are standalone. However, the characters from the first book are featured so prominently in this book and the friend group is so close knit, that I would probably recommend reading book 1 first to find out more of the history.
It’s worth noting that this story spends more time on the characters’ grieving and healing processes after heartache, instead of just rushing past that part of their lives in pursuit of new romance. I believe the book starts about a year after the heartbreak took place, and Valerie (the FMC) is still going through depression. I think that’s probably more realistic out here in the real world, but generally glossed over in the romance genre, so I appreciated the authenticity. ❤️🩹 Don’t worry though, the slow burn does pay off with romance of its own, too! (clean romance/kisses only)
Narration note: Madison Brunoehler was a new narrator for me and I enjoyed her performance! The book is told through the FMC’s perspective, but it’s really important to have a distinguishable male voice for those parts as well and she did. She even had to take it a step farther because the MMC’s voice is specifically written as raspy and with vocal fry, so I think she did a good job!

Mina’s got a thing for my buddy Jack. I’ve got a thing for getting into a good college. My plan is simple: I’ll help Mina get Jack’s attention if she’ll tutor me for the ACT. No big deal, right? But working with Mina isn’t going to be easy. Her social skills are iffy at best, and don’t get me started on her (lack of) flirting skills. It’s a good thing she makes me laugh, because we’re going to be spending a lot of time together…

I first read this book about 2 years ago on KU and loved it so much. But I am mostly an audiobook listener as my way of reading now, so when I saw that it was available on Audible, I immediately had to snatch it up! I have had the audiobook for about 3 weeks now and have listened to it 3 times so far… It’s just that easy on the ears and leaves your heart swooning every time! 🥰
🦻Let’s start with narration since good narration always enhances a story—
Hope Shangle and Dillon Sickels weren’t narrators that I knew before, but I really enjoyed both of them! They both had excellent expression, and their tones were perfect for high school voices and pleasant to listen to.
📖 Now for the story itself—
Gracie Ruth Mitchell’s story of two teen neighbors, Mina and Cohen, accepting and loving their own uniqueness is smartly and beautifully written. Although you know that romances will go a certain way, this one’s dialogue and events feel fresh and interesting. The characters are genuine and relatable with all their doubts and hopes that are a part of everyone’s high school experience. Thankfully though, there wasn’t unnecessary angst or drama or immaturity (which can sometimes plague YA characters) so the story was still enjoyable for someone who is in her 30s and a while past high school (aka: me 😉.) And I appreciated that there wasn’t explicit content. I loved that Mina, who gained so much confidence, was always feminine and introspective. Personally, I’m a lover of floral too, so I think we could have been friends! Cohen won me over easily with his humor and vulnerability as we see him deal with his changing family dynamics. It’s clear from pretty early on that they are a perfect match, so there is a delicious build up of tension before we finally get a kiss… But let me tell you, when feelings are finally laid out on the table, there is definitely pay off!! 😍🤩💫 I am giving this book 5stars, actually 5 wildflower bouquets! 🌼🌷🪻🌸🌻
I have the next book in the series which features Cohen’s sister on my TBR list and I can’t wait to dive into this world again as well as check out some of Gracie Ruth Mitchell’s other works!

Historia
Hannah Gold never thought she’d speak to Ethan Reisner ever again. Getting dumped in high school will do that to you. But when she needs to find a beloved sweater in time for her parents’ 50th anniversary, she begins her search where she last saw it: Ethan’s childhood home. She thought calling Ethan out of the blue would be the hardest part, but breaking fifteen years of silence was just the beginning. Why is Ethan being so friendly? And helpful? And funny? And is it possible for someone to be handsome over the phone?

So cute!! I’m a big fan of stories where the characters fall in love over text, and these characters reconnected over the phone, so it is basically all dialog. Even though it was short, it felt FULL in terms of the characters’ past relationship and build up to the potential present day relationship. Narration is excellent!

I have a type. I love the good guy. Responsible and stable. Safe. So when a beer-drinking, quick-witted, tattooed hockey player asks me to tutor him, I'm suddenly thrust into the world of bad boys and bad decisions. Jordan is a renowned player on campus. He doesn’t take anything seriously, except hockey and partying. But he gives me butterflies. I’m a wallflower tutoring Valley University’s hottest player.

Really cute, low angst story! I liked how the characters got to know each other and their relationship built. One of my new go-tos/repeat listens!
