Historia
January 1970 finds Ezekiel “Easy” Rawlins, LA’s premier Black detective, at 50 years of age despite all expectations. He has a loving family, a beautiful home, and a thriving investigation agency. All is right with the world… and then Amethystine Stoller, his own personal Helen of Troy, arrives. Her ex-husband is missing. A simple enough case. But even as Easy takes his first step in the investigation he trips. He falls into the memory of things past. Little things, like loss, love, a world war, and a hunger that has eaten at him since he was a Black boy on his own.

Worth the wait!
Revisado: 06-08-24
I think this is the first Easy Rawlins book in the series that I actually understood the plot and was able to follow all the way through without having to read it twice or back it up and listen again LOL! Easy will always say or do something, at least once, in every book that I will never quite understand. However, Mosley took his time with this one. The chapters/listen hours were longer but it made for an easy to read and follow, well constructed story. I really enjoyed this book and so looking forward to Part 2; like there HAS to be a part 2! I like Amy and was a little disappointed we didn’t get more romance from her and Easy but hoping she will return. Easy is 50, and will be older in the next book so it’s really time for him to find some good Black Love ;) I agree with Juice, he needs a woman. He’s pouring all of his love and affection into these two strange kids. It will always be weird and highly improbable that he raised two small, strange, non-related (and in Feather’s case, female infant) children as a Black man in that era by himself. It will also always be upsetting and sad that he didn’t raise his own child and wouldn’t even know her if he ran into her. Still hoping he (we) will see Edna again at some point. As always, I can’t say how much I love Michael Boatman’s depiction of Easy, he’s awesome!

Wealth. Power. Celebrity. Vonda Allen's glossy vanity magazine has taken the Windy City by storm, and she's well on her way to building a one-woman media empire. Everybody adores her. Except the people who work for her. And the person who's sending her flowers with death threats. As Vonda's bodyguard, off-duty cop Ben Mickerson knows he could use some back-up - and no one fits the bill better than his ex-partner on the police force, Cass Raines. Then Vonda refuses to say why someone might be after her, and two of her staff turn up dead....

Can anyone write a woman cop to be a woman?! My God, I’m on chapter 33 and I hate the way Cass’s relationship is headed with Eli. First of all, I hate it when partners fall for each other, even on those TV shows. That just annoys the heck out of me. I’m really hoping Ben keeps his distance and Cass ends up with Eli. They are just so cute together from day 1. Eli sounds like a tall dark and handsome Black dream plus he’s nice and he’s there for her. You can tell he has real feelings for her and he knows how she is and respects that. That’s why he didn’t say anything to her about what he’d done. Eli is Cass’s man and he has every right to get angry and confront Feradee. My God, people take this women’s lib BS way too far and it’s so frustrating. You’d think Eli sucker punched her or something. He has feelings for her and should be able to address Feradee without her getting her panties in a bunch. She should understand that and I actually can’t read any further! I don’t even care who’s killing who or whatever else happens. She’s a female cop, not a dude. All this “I can take care of myself” “I don’t need you taking up for me” “blah, blah, blah,” is annoying and so irritating. That’s not what he was even doing. She really should have called him to go with her in the park to check the crime scene. That was just stupid and aggravating. I’m sure others will enjoy that crap but you can miss me with that! This is the first and last time I’m reading a female cop series. I was hesitant for this very reason but thought I’d give it a try. This is the end of my Cass Raines journey. And yes, I’m a woman and I cannot stand the way people take women’s lib too far and the way female cops are written!

Welp, I’m all caught up with Easy R, I have to wait for the next release and I can’t wait! Another great read and Michael Boatman is amazing! Fingers crossed Edna will be in the new book even if it’s a cameo appearance. Maybe he thinks he sees her or something. Idk, but would love to know what she’s up to and if she knows her who her father is.

Historia
Picking up where Rose Gold left off in LA in the late 1960s, Ezekiel "Easy" Rawlins finds his life in transition. He's ready to - finally - propose to his girlfriend, Bonnie Shay, and start a life together. And he's taken the money he got from the Rose Gold case and has, together with two partners, started a new detective agency. But inevitably a case gets in the way: Easy's friend, Mouse, introduces him to Rufus Tyler, a very old man everyone calls Charcoal Joe.

Another Good One
Revisado: 03-07-24
I’m not crazy about some of what Easy does but I do enjoy reading the books. I especially love Michael Boatman’s narrations. I despise what Bonnie did to Easy. I wish someone else came along that deserves his heart. He’s so stuck on her; someone that loves you unconditionally would never do what she did. It was wrong and there’s no excuse for it. I’m still holding out on Easy seeing Edna at some point. She’s his only blood child and you can tell how heartbroken he is when he talks or thinks about her. I’m so glad he does think about her and mentions her. She should never be forgotten. It’s not her fault that they aren’t together. Can’t wait to read the next one!

In this new mystery set in the Patty Hearst era of radical black nationalism and political abductions, a black ex-boxer self-named Uhuru Nolica, the leader of a revolutionary cell called Scorched Earth, has kidnapped Rosemary Goldsmith, the daughter of a weapons manufacturer, from her dorm at UC Santa Barbara. Good overall read. Love when Easy mentions Edna and hoping they reunite one day. The narrator wasn’t Michael Boatman but he wasn’t bad either. He did a fairly decent job. I suppose if Michael can’t narrate them all, this guy isn’t a bad substitute.

Sitting in cold cars for hours, serving lowlifes with summonses...being a PI means riding out a lot of slow patches. But sometimes the most familiar paths can lead straight to danger - like at Cass's go-to diner, where new delivery guy Jung Byson wants to enlist her expertise. Jung's friend, Tim Ayers, scion of a wealthy Chicago family, has been found dead, floating in Lake Michigan near his luxury boat. And Jung is convinced there's a murderer on the loose....

Historia
We last saw Easy in 2007’s Blonde Faith, fighting for his life after his car plunges over a cliff. True to form, the tough WWII veteran survives, and soon his murderous sidekick Mouse has him back cruising the mean streets of L.A., in all their psychedelic 1967 glory, to look for a young black man, Evander "Little Green" Noon, who disappeared during an acid trip. Fueled by an elixir called Gator’s Blood, brewed by the conjure woman Mama Jo, Easy experiences a physical, spiritual, and emotional resurrection, but peace and love soon give way to murder and mayhem.

Michael Boatman
Revisado: 02-01-24
Michael Boatman IS Easy Rawlins and honestly, he’s the primary reason I continue to read the series, There are quite a few things that I don’t care for and sometimes Moseley can lose me; however, Michael Boatman reels me in and makes me really love Easy. So much so that I buy the books instead of waiting for my Audible credit. However, since I know he’s not reading the next book, I can wait for my credit ;) I also love Mouse and actually all of Easy’s friends. It’s awesome the way they are always there, no matter what and vice versa. Where would we be without good friends we can count on?!!

Spoiler Alert - I’m confused
Revisado: 01-25-24
I really hate the way Easy described Meredith Tar’s Black children as being very very very ugly. That was awful and made me almost stop reading the rest of the book. Those are children and to describe them that way is disgusting! Why would he think about Faith when he thought he was dying? Someone he just met, slept with once and had no relationship with? That made no sense to me. He literally met and spoke with her once or twice. I don’t get the obsession with Faith, so much so that the book was named after her. Like I’m so confused?? If anything the book should have been called Bonnie the way he mentioned her and couldn’t stop thinking about her (that was almost nauseating, almost). Faith’s impact was so small; almost non-existent that I almost missed it. Was it because she was “flawless” (rolls eyes)!? He literally had a relationship with Tourmaline Goss. They actually dated a few times and he actually told her everything. You could tell he felt very comfortable with her. It would seem he felt closer to Tourmaline than Faith. The story was okay but had little to do with the titular character or maybe it wasn’t a very good job tying everything in. It’s so nice to hear him talk about Edna and that she’s at least on his mind. Still hoping he sees her again and it’s a nice reunion, Though she has no clue about him. Another excellent performance by Michael Boatman!

It is the Summer of Love as Cinnamon Kiss opens, and Easy Rawlins is contemplating robbing an armored car. It's farther outside the law than Easy has ever traveled, but his daughter, Feather, needs a medical treatment that costs far more than Easy can earn or borrow in time. And his friend Mouse tells him it's a cinch. Then another friend, Saul Lynx, offers a job that might solve Easy's problem without jail time.

Another Good Easy Read!
Revisado: 01-21-24
I’m trying to figure out why the heck these Black men can raise everyone else’s kids but their own. Was Mosley adopted? What does he have against Black men raising their all-Black children? Other than that question mark, the book was good. I like Cinnamon and the chemistry she and Easy have. I like the way Easy’s personal life intertwined with him solving the case. Wouldn’t want to see it all of the time but it was nice. Love the way Mouse, EttaMae, Jackson, and Easy’s friends are always there to help him when he needs them and vice versa. I cannot say enough about Michael Boatman’s narration. He honestly makes me look forward to reading the next book in the series. So much so that if I’m out of credits, and he’s narrating the next book, I will just purchase the book! He’s excellent! I’m still not crazy that Bonnie has an accent and I really don’t need any of the accents. However, Michael does a much better job with the accents; they seem to just flow with him. They don’t seem forced or fake.

Michael Boatman’s Back!!!
Revisado: 01-18-24
OMG, what a difference Boatman makes! So glad he doesn’t feel the need to give a bunch of accents, especially for Bonnie. Boatman is so refreshing and, to be honest, he makes the story that much more interesting and intriguing, He is so freaking good! I missed him and glad he was back for this one. It would be nice if he narrates the rest of them but I know that’s not possible (sad face). Love the story. Easy’s crush and obsessions on Wanda and the way it played out was rather cute. Easy’s such a good guy. Love him! Enjoyed the story and love the returning characters. It’s funny that the pronunciation of Jule’s name changed to Juelle LOL. Was glad he finally mentioned Edna!!! Still hoping we hear more about her and maybe Easy spends time with her in future books. Can’t wait to read the next one!
