Historia
Kentucky, 1850. An enslaved groom named Jarret and a bay foal forge a bond of understanding that will carry the horse to record-setting victories across the South. When the nation erupts in civil war, an itinerant young artist who has made his name on paintings of the racehorse takes up arms for the Union. On a perilous night, he reunites with the stallion and his groom, very far from the glamor of any racetrack.

Excellent Read
Revisado: 08-05-22
I loved this novel - full of true history mingled with an intriguing and engaging story line. That it is based upon a portrait of a legendary race horse and the people, historical and fictional, whose lives were touched by him, makes for a good story that carries the reader along in eager anticipation of the next chapter.

Historia
With her disarming, intimate, completely accessible voice, and dry sense of humor, Nora Ephron shares with us her ups and downs in I Feel Bad About My Neck, a candid, hilarious look at women who are getting older and dealing with the tribulations of maintenance, menopause, empty nests, and life itself.

Waste of reading time
Revisado: 07-08-21
This was one of the most annoying books I have ever read! The author describes her life and those of her friends in detail, and reveals them to be vacuous, self-absorbed rich, pampered women, complaining about the cost of designer purses that they must have, and what kinds of cosmetic surgery they will next do for thousands of dollars. I stopped reading after several chapters because it was so vapid. Do not waste your prized reading time on this book! I had to give this a star to post this review. Truth is, it deserves negative icons… no stars…

Historia
Jenny Starling is spending Christmas in a snowed-in country house cooking all the traditional food she loves. But the family she’s working for are not full of the seasonal spirit. In fact, they seem to hate each other. On Christmas Eve, someone is found dead on the kitchen table. And the head of the family is blaming Jenny! But with an incompetent detective called in, and seemingly no motive for the murder, Jenny will have to give the police a hand. She will stop at nothing to clear her name and find the real murderer.

Obvious mystery
Revisado: 12-13-20
I was eager to listen to this book because it started out so well, with the setting, the season, and the premise. However, the unwinding of the murder mystery was disappointing because the outcome was so obvious. Not Agatha Christie by any stretch. A nice diversion, but ultimately, not a truly satisfying whodunit.
