Historia
July 1863. The Confederate Army of Northern Virginia is invading the North. General Robert E. Lee has made this daring and massive move with seventy thousand men in a determined effort to draw out the Union Army of the Potomac and mortally wound it. His right hand is General James Longstreet, a brooding man who is loyal to Lee but stubbornly argues against his plan. Opposing them is an unknown factor: General George Meade, who has taken command of the Army only two days before what will be perhaps the crucial battle of the Civil War.

Enjoyable story
Revisado: 08-12-23
I recently listened to it a second time. I had forgotten that I had listened to it a decade ago, but upon realizing I had already heard it I couldn’t stop from listening to it again, a form of Hugh praise.

Thoroughly Enjoyed the Book and Movie
Revisado: 07-10-23
Having watched the movie Greyhound I was both intrigued and concerned regarding the book, often books and movies differ meaningfully diminishing one. In this case I would recommend both, the book added detail, the movie added a realism only good movies can add through their visual and audio means.

Historia
In the Nevada desert, an experiment has gone horribly wrong. A cloud of nanoparticles (micro-robots) has escaped from the laboratory. This cloud is self-sustaining and self-reproducing. It is intelligent and learns from experience. For all practical purposes, it is alive. It has been programmed as a predator. It is evolving swiftly, becoming more deadly with each passing hour. Every attempt to destroy it has failed. And we are the prey.

Poor book choice for me
Revisado: 11-13-21
I found the plausibility of the story to be very low which undermined my enjoyment of the story. Having spoken to others who are fans of the author the issue is most likely that I purchased the wrong book, not a flaw with the book. Yes it’s science fiction and a bit extreme, the character development was solid though I found little real pull towards any of the characters.

Historia
Although previously undervalued for their strategic impact because they represented only a small percentage of total forces, the Union and Confederate navies were crucial to the outcome of the Civil War. In War on the Waters, James M. McPherson has crafted an enlightening, at times harrowing, and ultimately thrilling account of the war’s naval campaigns and their military leaders. McPherson recounts how the Union navy’s blockade of the Confederate coast, leaky as a sieve in the war’s early months, became increasingly effective as it choked off vital imports and exports.

Quick review of War on the Waters
Revisado: 10-24-21
An interesting review of US and confederate naval operations. The focus is more on strategy and broad movements with a moderate level of detail on distinct battles and key individuals. The book provides an understanding of the challenges faced by the union in blockading a tremendously long coast and some of the technological innovations developed during the war. The reader will likely leave the story with a better understanding of the difficulties faced by each side and how the Union ultimately strangled the confederate states naval and trade efforts.

Historia
Civil War Commando is the incredible tale of two giants on a historic collision course: Will Cushing, the United States Navy's first naval commando, and the unsinkable Confederate ironclad Albemarle, Terror of the Roanoke, an innovative war machine that seized control of the Roanoke River Valley and threatened to cost the Union the war.

Amazing story about a less widely known American Civil War hero and very well presented
Revisado: 09-01-21
The story is almost Forest Gump like in the amazing number of people Will Cushill would meet and acts he would command. Multiple times I was forced to verify the deeds, his experiences during the civil war were just that outstanding. When you outshine in someways the acts of heroism of his Medal of Honor winning brother in the same war, you have lived an amazing life. The author crafted a book which allows these exploits to leap from the page and compels you to steam through the book.

Historia
At the beginning of 1864, the Civil War was far from won; terrible and bloody Union setbacks and casualties lay ahead. Abraham Lincoln was facing a re-election battle as some northern Democrats were ready to start peace talks that could leave the Confederacy a separate slaveholding American nation and as his secretary of the treasury, Salmon P. Chase, challenged him for the Republican nomination. But by the end of the year, the war's end was in sight, and slavery was on the verge of extinction.

Solid detail may be excessive for some
Revisado: 06-28-17
If art is in the eye of the beholder than many will love, and some may view the level of detail as excessive. To my eye, there were many items that seemed unimportant to the story yet often intruded into the narrative. Others may view the level of detail favorably.
