Historia
In 1933, at the age of 18, Patrick Leigh Fermor set out on an extraordinary journey by foot - from the Hook of Holland to Constantinople. A Time of Gifts is the first volume in a trilogy recounting the trip, and takes the listener with him as far as Hungary. It is a book of compelling glimpses - not only of the events that were curdling Europe at that time, but also of its resplendent domes and monasteries, its great rivers, the sun on the Bavarian snow, the storks and frogs, the hospitable burgomasters who welcomed him, and that world's grandeurs and courtesies.

In one of the great ironies of the modern world, the science that was expected to solve life’s mysteries has done just the opposite. New discoveries have led to more unanswered questions, created deeper mysteries, and brought us to the brink of forbidden territory when it comes to explaining our origin and existence. New York Times best-selling author and 2018 Templeton Award nominee Gregg Braden crosses the traditional boundaries of science and spirituality to answer the timeless question at the core of our existence.

I enjoyed Falco’s wit and down-to-earth life. He experiences all social statuses, from his flat in the slum ghetto to his March to consult the Emperor. This story is an entertaining class in Roman history.

Rivetingly intriguing and warmly personal
Revisado: 09-05-24
Like any great book, he depicts intelligent characters worthy of admiration and explains their knowledge so that I wanted to learn. I knew nothing about flying machines, but because I like the books people, I wanted to learn. More than that, Brooks explained their history so that I understood how they made the choices that made them who they were. I am going to listen to it again. Oh, and Julia Whelan is a brilliant narrator.

Historia
When the Iraq war began, conservationist Lawrence Anthony could think of only one thing: the fate of the Baghdad Zoo, caught in the crossfire at the heart of the city. Once Anthony entered Iraq, he discovered that hostilities and uncontrolled looting had devastated the zoo and its animals. Working with members of the zoo staff and a few compassionate U.S. soldiers, Anthony defended the zoo, bartered for food on war-torn streets, and scoured bombed palaces for desperately needed supplies.

Aging with memories
Revisado: 11-24-23
I enjoyed this very much. As a life time athlete approaching my seventies my body has been injured to the point of living in my wonderful wheelchair. I am not sad. At all. I have wonderful memories. I play them often and feel replenished. This podcast has reminded me of a larger community of similar athletes, like Dianna, who embrace their age with grace and gladness. That reminder was nice. Thankyou.
