Historia
Mallory Greenleaf is done with chess. Every move counts nowadays; after the sport led to the destruction of her family four years earlier, Mallory’s focus is on her mom, her sisters, and the dead-end job that keeps the lights on. That is, until she begrudgingly agrees to play in one last charity tournament and inadvertently wipes the board with notorious “Kingkiller” Nolan Sawyer: current world champion and reigning Bad Boy of chess.

Interesting committed love story
Revisado: 12-13-24
I love Ali's stories, I learn so much about current culture. She seems to know more about American trends than we do. Pretty awesome for a European. The narrator is wonderful.

Captivating!
Revisado: 10-17-24
Interesting story with realistic characters and fascinating Jewish culture. I love learning new words, and concepts.
I found myself googling terms and/or phrases to learn more about them. I always enjoy when a book captures the imagination the way this one did. I have listened to her previous book, 'The Matchmaker's gift,' many times, and I think I will be reading this one again as well. Bravo!

Historia
After Lucy is found wandering the streets, covered in her best friend Savvy’s blood, everyone thinks she is a murderer. Lucy and Savvy were the golden girls of their small Texas town: pretty, smart, and enviable. Lucy married a dream guy with a big ring and an even bigger new home. Savvy was the social butterfly loved by all, and if you believe the rumors, especially popular with the men in town. It’s been years since that horrible night, a night Lucy can’t remember anything about, and she has since moved to LA and started a new life.

Loved this story, loved the style. A great idea using a true crime podcast to help solve a real life mystery in a fictional novel. Way cool! Of course, the narrators were A plus and kept things interesting. Plus, the author kept me guessing until the end. My first Amy Tintera, definitely not my last. Well done!

A Witch and a Demon are cursed
Revisado: 05-09-24
At first I thought it was going to be a great mystery/love story, then I found it too hard to follow. Always jumping back and forth. In the end, I couldn't bond with any one of her previous incarnations. Maybe it's just me?
I may give it another try some time if it doesn't put me to sleep again. I was looking for a happy magical realism story and this was suggested by Google, not!

Fascinating. I can't wait to listen to it again. There are some scenes that had me sniffling, but I don't want to give any of the story away. This one may be my favorite book of the four written thus far. Bravo!

Historia
Attempting to recover a relic stolen from her family years ago, gifted crystal worker Leona Hewitt secretly makes her way into Lord Delbridge's private museum. But who she finds there is more entrancing than the crystal she seeks. Thaddeus Ware is a mesmerist with powerful psychic energy—that doesn't seem to be affecting the woman before him. Instead, Leona seems to exert a rather hypnotic power over the hypnotist himself. After she gives him the slip, absconding with the crystal they recovered, Thaddeus fears for her safety.

Riveting story.
Revisado: 09-14-23
Great story, and awesome narrator. I really enjoy these historical romances that also are infused with people that have psychical talents. Leave it to Amanda Quick to keep it interesting. So glad to hear from the Arcane Society again. I was also happy to see that Gabe and Venetia are doing well. I loved their story too. In addition, the dog called "Fog" was adorable. And, I really thought Aunt Victoria was sweet. Bravo! Now we need a story for Caleb.

Magical
Revisado: 06-11-23
I loved this story so much that I've already listened to it twice. It has it all! The narrator grew on me. Listening to the sample several times, I repeatedly rejected this choice. However, since a good friend had recommended this book to me, I kept returning to it and I finally took the plunge.
It was the right choice. Turns out that the narrator was wonderful, I just needed time to recognize it. My first Kristin Hannah, there will definitely be more. The ending was surprising and perfect, kept me guessing.

Anything read by Rebecca Lowman, is always phenomenal! This story is mediocre or maybe better than that, I'm not sure. Its my first by Laura Dave, and if I'm still thinking about it in the next few days then its probably better than I thought. Intriguing subject and with a good plot. I know its a bestseller, so what do I know?

Historia
Alicia Berenson’s life is seemingly perfect. A famous painter married to an in-demand fashion photographer, she lives in a grand house with big windows overlooking a park in one of London’s most desirable areas. One evening, her husband, Gabriel, returns home late from a fashion shoot, and Alicia shoots him five times in the face and then never speaks another word. Alicia’s refusal to talk, or give any kind of explanation, turns a domestic tragedy into something far grander, a mystery that captures the public imagination and casts Alicia into notoriety.

Historia
Christmas is approaching, and in Québec it's a time of dazzling snowfalls, bright lights, and gatherings with friends in front of blazing hearths. But shadows are falling on the usually festive season for Chief Inspector Armand Gamache. Most of his best agents have left the Homicide Department, his old friend and lieutenant Jean-Guy Beauvoir hasn't spoken to him in months, and hostile forces are lining up against him. When Gamache receives a message from Myrna Landers that a longtime friend has failed to arrive for Christmas in the village of Three Pines, he welcomes the chance to get away.

Above average story
Revisado: 09-16-22
An interesting story with a lot going on. Multiple plot lines to follow, but it's doable. I personally don't care for all the political machinations going on with Inspector Gamache's job. I wish he could focus on solving homicides with his team.
In fact, in this story we are never really sure who killed the last quint. It is suggested it was probably a younger brother/sibling that no one was aware of. However, that loose end is not tied up. We don't learn if there is an arrest or not (unless I missed something).
On the other hand, seeing Beavoir decompensate, hit bottom, and finally find his moral compass again was rewarding. He redeemed himself.
Finally, I enjoyed having Agent Nicole in the picture again, warts and all. Her character deserves to be more fleshed out and I hope she gets promoted soon. Great narration as usual.
