i found all the actors music background noise to be very distracting. i listened to the first 12 books simply ready by scott brick and those were great. this was jarring.

it would be better if it was an Option but currently there’s not another version of this book available w just a clean read through so you HAVE to listen to all the noise if you want to listen to this book.

the material is great. the voice actors are all individually great. the sound editing is great. together it’s a bit much. sometimes i like these teleplays but this one ..

i just want to focus on the story. i don’t need all the bells and whistles. there’s the Three Movie Versions for that.

this series is tough. blood. death. gore. this 2nd book (whole series) i’ve read a few times. and i loved the 1st one so much that this second was a VERY jarring start. i almost thought i mistakenly picked up a different series. however. altho i don’t like the 2nd or 3rd books as much as the 1sronly listening to/ reading it alone doesn’t feel like a complete story.

i like this series a lot. but it’s not like most popular fantasy. it’s doesn’t follow the standard modern fantasy tropes [well a few; orphan is miraculously skilled! .. but it’s almost impossible to Completely avoid and this isn’t a regular story arc so i forgive].

i love it. i dont recommend it lightly. and i barely ever actually take time to review because it’s all so subjective. a book recommendation is such an intimate thing. it takes so many things into consideration. an impersonal online review, for me, is weird.

that being said thanks for reading to this point.

the story is unconventional. may be hard to read for general public. gore. death. violence. repetitive words. pagan rituals. sacrifice. slavery. women rising up and taking over.

the guys voice is too gruff, doesn’t suit character. BOO. YAY. feels so forced and doesn’t have any kind of flow. it feels like someone reading a dictionary.

luckily i read this paperback style and so this didn’t ruin the story for me. but i would not recommend as an intro to this story or character.

the second book in this series starts off so unlike the first that it was jarring. i ended up getting the audiobook and it seemed to gel a little better. i separated this story from the first book and glad i did. it comes back around to the oddness of the first. i’m interested to see how it ends.

definitely a weird series. the voice actor is good. unremarkable, just a good solid read.

the opening is read in a way that doesn’t really match the tone of the scene. or the subject matter. the actor almost seems ... kind of flippant. and it’s disappointing because i really live this book.
