The characters were so fully formed, I find myself wondering how they are now as if they were actual people i know . This story will stay with me a long time.

Despite his usual clientele of gamers, Ben is barely earning enough to keep the store running and stay on top of his father's medical bills. Then a local toy and game collector named Clive offers him a winning strategy—to purchase a turn-of-the-twentieth-century edition of The Landlord's Game, the realty and taxation game that inspired Monopoly, at a tenth of the rare edition's true value. Eleanor OliphantI is Fine by Gail Honeyman
Revisado: 03-03-22
After finishing this book I took time to think about Eleanor and to understand her. She has no filter so she makes some wrong interpretations in social situations. At.times its possible to believe she falls into the autism spectrum, a mistaken assumption. Eleanor interprets life literally, not understanding the unspoken social norms. After nine years doing the same job she has a chance encounter with a newly met co-worker. This leads into many situations that are hard for her to understand. Along with her we meet the characters who challenge her beliefs. Watching her make her way around this much larger world is the heart of the book. At times her mistakes are humorous but also can be sad,. We appreciate and understand how painful change can be for Eleanor to incorporate into her ridged view of the world
I absolutely loved this book and the very well developed other characters that became a part of her world. She reveals her past a!along the way. I'm not going to spoil the book by revealing the outcome but I found the ending to be really satisfying. Take some time to meet Eleanor and her history. its hard not to cheer her on. I immediately missed her as soon as I finished her story. I highly recommend it. The author wrote a superb first book. It will be fun to see her next one. I highly recommend this book and the author. The narrator Cathleen McCarron is superb.

Initially I started the audio book. Quickly the strange names and various creatures sent me to the book. This really is a “Strange Practice”! I would love to know the author Vivian Shaw . Her mind is a place of incredible fascinating characters who are credible and even strangely endearing. I really enjoyed this strange but very entertaining debut and hope there is a sequel.

I always wanted to see Faeries
Revisado: 08-31-17
The Cuttingly Secret, a novel by Hazel Gaynor was such a lovely surprise. Parts of this story are based on true events, yet what little girl hasn't hoped to see their own Faeries? This book made that wish quite within reach. Some bubbling water, a setting sun and a still of the air, who can deny the possibilities?
This author is new to me but I'll be looking for more of her work. I absolutely loved this book.

what a delightful surprise
Revisado: 07-03-15
I bought The Brooklyn Follies written and narrated by PaulAuster on a sale pack from audible. What an interesting group of people entered my life. The story is narrated by the author in a sort of matter of fact manner, lulling the listener into the expectation of a "little" tale of this divored man, estranged from his daughter and disconnected from life.
Dont be fooled by the apparent blandness. His forced retirement due to the hapless fate of a non- smoker with lung cancer, he tetreats from life. Bu pure coincidence, he encpunters his long lost nephew Tom, the only son of his deceased sister. Tom, the former family star is a mess. Nathan, the main character is Tom's uncle and his alarm at the decline of the now underemployed Tom sparks a renewed interest in engaging with life.
Nathan is an excellent observer of what he calls the "human condition". Eventually these observations and errant thoughts accumulatr, are meticulessly sorted and develop into the Follies. We are introduced to characters so real in his telling, they take on lives of their own. We care about them, just as Nathan does and now cant help but miss this cast of misfits who slowly through their spmetimes mundane lives work their way to your heart.
i highly recommend this book to readers who enjoy quiet little books that become big memories.
