Very original and compelling story line with great narration!
Revisado: 09-16-23
I usually listen to audiobooks during the 30 to 60 minutes that I am falling asleep. This book has so much granular detail, with very articulate writing, that I had to change things up a little bit and listen during the morning and daytime when I was fully awake. This is such an original story, yet based on true events, that it really stands out and I can recommend it to anyone who has even a passing interest in family legacy, Ireland and/or psychology.

DeMille is in anachronism. This was really hard to get through.

I really enjoyed some of his earlier works, but this was embarrassingly full of clichés and ridiculousness. Cory isn’t even a likable character at this point, what a waste of 10 hours or so.

Historia
There is no easy path for a woman aspiring to power. A concubine at the palace learns quickly that there are many ways to capture the emperor's attention. Many paint their faces white and style their hair attractively, hoping to lure in the One Above All with their beauty. Some present him with fantastic gifts, such as jade pendants and scrolls of calligraphy, while others rely on their knowledge of seduction to draw his interest. But young Mei knows nothing of these womanly arts, yet she will give the emperor a gift he can never forget.

So bad, I actually returned it for a credit

Historical fiction is my favorite genre, especially Asian, but the story was unbelievable and the narration was so horrible I couldn’t continue. No need for me to go on, there are many similar reviews that go into greater detail.

Narration detracts from the story big time!
Revisado: 06-20-20
I am a huge Andrew Mayne fan, but this audiobook was nearly impossible to get through. The narrator would probably be great for another kind of book, but this story is about an alpha male type of character and the narration is more like a hysterical junior highschooler. Totally incongruent, and super distracting. Really, unbelievable.

Historia
A Cure to Die For is a medical thriller about a wonder drug, a miracle cure and a conspiracy to destroy it. A genetically engineered cure for the common cold - a simple, inexpensively grown plant - turns out to be a cure for cancer and threatens to make most other drugs obsolete. The discovery triggers a crisis of medical, corporate and political greed that sweeps the country as the government and the media conspire with Big Pharma to keep the miracle drug off the market.

A very rewarding story!
Revisado: 12-08-13
What did you love best about A Cure to Die For?
I believe this "fictional" account is very spot on in terms of how the government and corporate interests would respond if something like this came forth. The author made his case, in entertaining fashion, how greed is the primary motivator in the power structures of our country and world.
What did you like best about this story?
There were a number of twists and surprises in the story line that kept me intrigued. I especial liked a few of the secondary characters and how they were brought to life, especially Robert Bigfoot and Annie Seeley.
Have you listened to any of Chuck Driscoll’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
This is the first.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
It made me angry at the stupidity and motivations of some in our culture.
Any additional comments?
Great job on this audio book, I look forward to more in the future from this author.
