Historia
It’s 2006. After a string of rejections from men who tell her they could never, ever, ever see her “that way,” awkward third-grade teacher Micaela Blei signs up for a mysterious course called “The Divine Feminine,” and feels like she might have found the key to the perfect life. Turns out if you’re an A student, you can get an A in anything–including men. Pretty soon she’s learning to "conjure" her desires with vision boards, flirtations, and even a daring jumbotron viewing party for her, ahem ... "divine center."

Revisado: 03-10-25
Most of the story, it was an encouraging telling about owning your power and speaking your mind. And then all of a sudden in the last chapters, she just stops doing that after a breakup and the book ends. Very strange. I really enjoyed most of this but totally fell flat at the end.

I appreciate the points of having your own life and not being a slave to an employer.
However, a couple of major “oh-no’s.” The author has clearly never worked in recruiting and does not know the reality of recruiting systems because of the way he speaks about recruiters and how they do their jobs (and don’t do their jobs). A very long chapter just to say to adjust your résumé to use keywords for the job you’re applying for. Also, the author has an anti-burnout routine where he wakes up at 5:30 in the morning, has an intense workout and prep schedule, and unwinds in the evenings with a sauna. He also has a full gym in his office space. Not ideal or realistic for most working adults who have families and other life obligations.
Also, I get really irked when each chapter of a book starts and ends with “OK, let’s dive in/go/get started.” Ugh.

Historia
The resurgence of viral clips from the long-running hit reality television show America’s Next Top Model left fans and foes alike wondering–how did a show so outrageous and at times offensive ever get on the air? For years, Americans dutifully watched as contestants faced uncomfortable situations regarding their race and gender, body-shaming, stereotyping, and problematic photoshoots. The show, which first premiered in 2003 and ran for 24 cycles, was helmed by supermodel Tyra Banks–the first Black female host of a smash network reality show.

I loved ANTM and appreciate how others could see how cringe it was. There were times when I thought these podcast episodes reached a little far on certain things but enjoyable all the same.

Not for me, unfortunately
Revisado: 07-11-22
The narration was very tranquil and smoothing. However, the guided meditation was about imaging yourself seeing sunsets, hiking, mountain lakes, etc - which made me only think about my ex because we did so much outdoorsy stuff together and he proposed to me next to a mountain lake LOL so this book didn’t help me at all and made me feel a lot worse. But am hoping others enjoy this!

Historia
Up to 40% of people consider themselves shy. You might say you're introverted or awkward, or that you're fine around friends but just can't speak up in a meeting or at a party. Maybe you're usually confident but have recently moved or started a new job, only to feel isolated and unsure. If you get nervous in social situations - meeting your partner's friends, public speaking, standing awkwardly in the elevator with your boss - you've probably been told, "Just be yourself!" But that's easier said than done - especially if you're prone to social anxiety.

Overall, fine
Revisado: 11-21-21
Positives: Good information and helpful tips to acknowledge and overcome social anxiety.
Downside: the metaphors, similes, and stories tried too hard to be funny instead of supporting the information (ex. “Harder to believe than Barbie’s high-heeled feet,” Ghandi writing his ideas into his phone, a defense lawyer arguing against your “inner critic,” etc.).

Historia
Leland Gaunt opens a new shop in Castle Rock called Needful Things. Anyone who enters his store finds the object of his or her lifelong dreams and desires: a prized baseball card, a healing amulet. In addition to a token payment, Gaunt requests that each person perform a little "deed", usually a seemingly innocent prank played on someone else from town. These practical jokes cascade out of control, and soon the entire town is doing battle with itself. Only Sheriff Alan Pangborn suspects that Gaunt is behind the population's increasingly violent behavior.

Wonderful Story. Questionable Music and Sound Effects
Revisado: 07-17-20
Needful Things is a classic and one of my favorite Stephen King novels. I really enjoyed Stephen Kong’s narration. The voice inflections and pace were great. However, the sound quality is not. You can sometimes hear static, people murmuring in the background, and some of the sound effects are laughable. For example, Heartbreak Hotel playing during the Elvis daydream - so unnecessary and weird. I laughed so hard the first time I heard it and had to listen to the section again because I couldn’t focus on the story at all. Otherwise, big fan of Stephen King at 1.4x speed!
