Gideon Cross came into my life like lightning in the darkness... He was beautiful and brilliant, jagged and white-hot. I was drawn to him as I’d never been to anything or anyone in my life. I craved his touch like a drug, even knowing it would weaken me.

Shades of Grey "wanna-be"....REALLY missed.
Revisado: 05-01-16
I really didn't like this book. There are NO women like Ava. There are no men like Cross.
Seriously ladies, how many multi-billionaires men are drop dead gorgeous and single? And the billionaire men are interested in the new-hire working as the assistant for a gay guy in a marketing firm.
The two main character's first true meeting is unbelievable and stupid. Ladies, if a multi-billionaire asks you to stay after a meeting and then blatantly asks you for sex....I would suggest most women would sue for sexual harassment, not sleep with the guy?
They solve all of their problems by having sex. Had a fight, let's have sex. You've upset me, let's have sex....You've tried to rape me while I was sleeping because you were molested as a child....Yes let's have sex......RIDICULOUS!
Do yourself a favor, buy an ice cream cone and eat that instead, you will get more enjoyment out of it.

Historia
Marie-Laure lives with her father in Paris near the Museum of Natural History, where he works as the master of its thousands of locks. When she is six, Marie-Laure goes blind and her father builds a perfect miniature of their neighborhood so she can memorize it by touch and navigate her way home. When she is 12, the Nazis occupy Paris and father and daughter flee to the walled citadel of Saint-Malo, where Marie-Laure’s reclusive great-uncle lives in a tall house by the sea. With them they carry what might be the museum’s most valuable and dangerous jewel.

Pulitzer? but then again?
Revisado: 05-01-16
Okay, so I will admit I got the book for two reasons. 1st it won a Pulitzer, and second I really liked the cover at the book store. The story sounded "semi-interesting."
I didn't like it right off. I thought the characters were not well developed, and the single-mindedness of the German orphan boy was a bit ridiculous.
The author just spent so much time talking about the school and the culmination of the girl and the boy take place very late in the book.
But here's the thing....I will say it again, I didn't like the book. I kept complaining "this got a Pulitzer?"....but when the sister visits in the end, I found myself moved by that. These characters I didn't like very much had wormed their way into my heart. (I may have even gotten something stuck in my eye...because it watered a bit).
And I am STILL thinking about this book....so in the end, I guess I did like it after all.

On the right side of the law. Sort of. Sebastian Rudd is not your typical street lawyer. He works out of a customized bulletproof van, complete with Wi-Fi, a bar, a small fridge, fine leather chairs, a hidden gun compartment, and a heavily armed driver. He has no firm, no partners, no associates, and only one employee: his driver, who's also his bodyguard, law clerk, confidant, and golf caddy.

Grrrrrr......Why do the endings suck so bad!
Revisado: 05-01-16
Any additional comments?
I like Mr. Grisham quite a bit. I've read all he has put on paper. I just hate the endings in the last two books I have read.
The character development in this book is fantastic. It was one of those, "just a few more minutes" listens, because I needed to see what would happen next. But the ending was so underwhelming....and frankly it was upsetting!

After a showdown with the notorious Yemeni terrorist known as The Panther, John Corey has left the Anti-Terrorist Task Force and returned home to New York City, taking a job with the Diplomatic Surveillance Group. Although Corey's new assignment with the DSG - surveilling Russian diplomats working at the UN Mission - is thought to be "a quiet end", he is more than happy to be out from under the thumb of the FBI and free from the bureaucracy of office life.

While I was impressed with the story overall, I really miss Kate. I didn't see the breakup happening or her choosing her job over her husband.
The story was very good, classic DeMille. Great character development, and excellent and detailed crafted story. Looking forward to the next one in the series (Bring back Kate!)
As a final note, I think the voice overs changed since the last book? or is it just me?

This was such an enjoyable book! I've traveled in this part of the world and I found this book really captures the culture in a respectful but humorous way. From worrying about burning baby's bottoms from incinerating used disposable diapers, to the famed poet laureate (If the position is now vacant, may I apply?), this book is well worth the time to read.

Throughout these books, Follett has followed the fortunes of five intertwined families - American, German, Russian, English, and Welsh - as they make their way through the twentieth century. Now they come to one of the most tumultuous eras of all: the enormous social, political, and economic turmoil of the 1960s through the 1980s, from civil rights, assassinations, mass political movements and Vietnam to the Berlin Wall, the Cuban Missile Crisis, presidential impeachment, revolution - and rock and roll.

I would listen to this just to live through the Cuban Missile crisis. The JFK subplot is so dang juicy and good. And finally one of the entire series best love stories comes to a good end.
Great writing, great narration! Great book! Still not as good as the first one in the century series, but still outstanding!

I hope this book is just a bridge to the next book in the story....it is worth reading, but not as good as the other ones in the series.

I was so into this book...and I loved this book so much in the beginning. But the ending just plain sucks. And the subplots that the author throws in from time to time are so dang good...but feels so unfinished.
I miss "rainmaker" stories...with subplots that finish and wrap up correctly.
I want juicy love stories in the book....
I want a sequel to this book to finish up all the missing bits and pieces.

Great start.....surprise ending..not so surprising
Revisado: 05-10-15
Any additional comments?
My sister recommended this book. It gets off to such a great start, I love the main characters, the judge and the detective/cop. I don't like the main teenage character too much, she seems so....I don't know...."woe is me" type of person....oh poor popular girl. Then the whole best friends with the killer thing really bothers me....I mean if I came up with a person and spent as much time together as they did, I wouldn't allow my new "so called friends" to rip on that person, regardless of how it reflected on me.
So the unrealistic parts of the plot was a bit distracting. I would have also have liked to see the story go in a different direction than it did. I thought the author should have concentrated more on the trial than on the other parts of the character and development (plus there was a lot of flashbacks, that made the story odd/hard to follow at times).

Mary Katherine lost her sexy accent in this book. I liked how the book started off, but It seemed like the author got to a certain point in the book and realized that it was time to move it along and tell the rest of the story. So a lot of the subplot items tended to get less attention. This one was just "okay"
