I had to stop amd start this book. I had trouble with the sheer cruelty of some of the characters, but having returned to it, I was glad I did. it os a well crafted story.

not as good as People We Meet on Vacation

The idea of poking fun at the tropes and then embracing them created an interesting approach, but execution was lacking. The dialogue also became jarring. I like a good curse word as much as the next person, but when meant for emphasis the same word can't be used every other sentence. It began to read like city people or profesionals must use the word "f*ck" more like middle schoolers than grown ups who work with books and thus have large vocabularies. I found myself rolling my eyes toward the end and thinking that this book needed a better editor. PWMOV was a much better read with more plausible characters.

I love this author. From A Man Called Ove on he's written book after book with funny, relatable characters that you can't help but love, even the frustrating ones. If you don't see someone in your life reminiscent of each of his characters, you just aren't looking. One of my best reads in months!

Rough beginning but so worth finishing!

it was a difficult beginning. I thought about walking away from this book because it hot me at the worst possible time, but ai stuck with it and it turned out to have been the best possible thing to read under the circumstances. It really turned out to be q godsend. A beautiful story beautifully told.

A lengthy tale of a family

Although not exactly spooky. it had enough twists and turns to keep it interesting. Understanding the personalities and relationships gave it a greater depth than expected.

very accurate

I bought this book before my first (and so far only) river cruise. it is accurate and hilarious. I meant to read it before going, and it has great tips, but I ran out of time. in the end, it works as a great bookend to the trip as well. Definitely read this if you considering this type of a cruise.

Fascinating and humorously told

I really didn't like this book

Some, not all, of the research was accurate on Texas law; but overall, the main character was so flawed he seemed to contradict himself at every turn. Next to no resolution of character issues, and the resolution received was dissatisfying. I was quite disappointed after all the positive reviews. I had higher expectations for it. And I agree with the Texas gentleman complaining about the main character frequently grabbing women, which was unrealistic and distracting. That is not likely from a Texas gentleman and it would not be something done by a Texas Ranger either.

Gripping tale

A wonderful, gripping tale told in a very different manner. it allowed the story to build just fast enough to keep you invested, but to truly build the suspense. excellent!
