Gives the Much Maligned General His Due

William T. Sherman is a sometimes polarizing figure in our Nation's history. Not surprisingly, many of his most adamant detractors are Southerners whose families have handed down from one generation to the next the depredations worked upon their ancestors during the General's fabled march to the sea. I would urge them to read his memoirs, from which I think they will come away with, at the very least, a begrudging respect for a circumspect man who fought for his country.

I've read or listened to all of Stephen Coonts's books in the Jake Grafton series. All are exceptionally well written and engagingly performed in the audio versions. Coonts sets a very high bar in the genre, but that said, Under Siege is his masterpiece. The story line is compelling and holds the reader's interest from start to finish. Bravo.

The story line is unimaginative. The ending is dissatisfying. Worse still, as one wades tediously through this book, the listener is assaulted by the author's political predilections.
