Historia
If burying a child has a special poignancy, the tragedy at a Catholic elementary school in Chicago more than 50 years ago was an extraordinary moment of grief. One of the deadliest fires in American history, it took the lives of 92 children and three nuns at Our Lady of the Angels School, left many families physically and psychologically scarred for life, and destroyed a close-knit working-class neighborhood.

Gripping and very well written

Horrifying but a story that needs to be told and not forgotten. The authors bring this story to vivid life and I couldn’t stop listening.

Historia
This is the intimate story of 20 tsars and tsarinas, some touched by genius, some by madness, but all inspired by holy autocracy and imperial ambition. Simon Sebag Montefiore's gripping chronicle reveals their secret world of unlimited power and ruthless empire building, overshadowed by palace conspiracy, family rivalries, sexual decadence, and wild extravagance, with a global cast of adventurers, courtesans, revolutionaries, and poets, from Ivan the Terrible to Tolstoy and Pushkin.

Excellent for Russophiles

I have a strange connection to Imperial Russian history. I feel very drawn to it and attached to it. Enter Ancestry.....there’s a reason; I have Russian/Ukrainian in my DNA. I find myself listening to this over & over. Love the Robert Massie books as well.

Historia
More than 15 years after the events of The Handmaid's Tale, the theocratic regime of the Republic of Gilead maintains its grip on power, but there are signs it is beginning to rot from within. At this crucial moment, the lives of three radically different women converge, with potentially explosive results. Two have grown up as part of the first generation to come of age in the new order. The testimonies of these two young women are joined by a third: Aunt Lydia. Her complex past and uncertain future unfold in surprising and pivotal ways.

Great follow up
Revisado: 10-07-19
As a fan of the original book, original movie and an avid watcher of the Hulu series, I was so happy to listen to this book. The Testaments answers many of my and then questions and goes into even more detail of life in Gilead. The insight into how it started & the effects on characters is amazing. I’ve always had the feeling that there was a lot more to the Aunt Lydia story and that background really opened my eyes to the character’s perspective. If finding myself in a similar situation; would I make those same choices? Is she really this malevolent person or is she just trying to survive? Can I really condemn her as I always had? The answer is certainly not black & white but every shade of grey.
