Gawd Awful Accents - Why? Just Why?
Revisado: 07-22-24
Why after all of these books in the series did the producer and or narrator feel the need to add horrible overdone accents to the regular characters?! Did not add anything at all to the story and in fact, took away from it.

A Parody of a Wolf Shifter Story
Revisado: 01-10-23
Ridiculous storyline! I kept hoping it would improve. It did not! Every issue in the story was solved by just involuntarily turning someone into a shifter. It read as if the author had researched wolf shifter books on Wikipedia and then condensed the basic knowledge into a terribly unbelievable and poorly plotted storyline. I don’t think I have ever returned a book before but I wasted a credit on this one for certain!

Terrible Narration
Revisado: 10-25-19
I can’t really rate the story as I could not finish it. The narrator was simply not good. I could not follow the story as I could not tell the difference between any of the characters. I had to concentrate so hard on which character was speaking, I could not enjoy the story. Narrator’s voice was not unpleasant but her style is not good for audio books. I have noticed that many books available in Audible Escape have bad ratings on narration so that is very disappointing.

I may be newly divorced, stranded in a small mountain town, and working as an elf at a cut-your-own-Christmas-tree farm, but I'm finally rid of my ex and putting food on the table. Independence rocks, and I've got zero interest in the former-SEAL-turned-firefighter who literally falls out of the sky and lands at my feet. Okay. Not zero interest. Jacks Benson is the foul-mouthed, irritating, way-too-sexy bad boy who tormented me through high school.

Horrible Narration
Revisado: 10-22-17
I only got through a few minutes of the story so I can’t rate the story. The narration is unbelievably terrible! The female sounds like she is an ancient granny witch trying to tell an old tale. Would give less than one star if possible here.

Ridiculous Narration
Revisado: 10-22-17
This is one of the worst narrations I have ever heard!! The narrator sounds as if she is purposefully trying to make the characters sound like a bunch of stereotypical dumb jocks (female characters included!) I wish I could give it negative stars since I hate to even give it one.

Someone Please Cast a Spell on This Narration!
Revisado: 06-15-17
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
I can't even rate the story as I could not even get through the first chapter. The narrator is terrible and I am not sure what convinced him that just adding a "lisp" on the "s" sounds would sound like an Irish accent but it is horrible! I loved the first book and was so excited to continue the story in book two but I will definitely be returning this one - first time I have ever done so and I have had some pretty bad narrators in the past. But I cannot pay $17 plus for this book and not even be able to get through it.
What do you think your next listen will be?
The next book in the Sanctuary WV series by Nancy Herkness, "The Place I Belong." Not as much depth as the Dark Witch book that brought me to Shadow Spell but the narration is soothing.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
The sole reason I am returning this book! I don't even have enough adjectives to describe how painful it was to try to listen to his narration. Should have read the other reviews before I purchased.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Disappointment at the narration. No idea about the storyline as I could not get through it.
Any additional comments?
Will look for and avoid this narrator in the future!

Historia
The Two Towers is the second volume of J.R.R. Tolkien's epic saga, The Lord of the Rings. The Fellowship has been forced to split up. Frodo and Sam must continue alone towards Mount Doom, where the One Ring must be destroyed. Meanwhile, at Helm’s Deep and Isengard, the first great battles of the War of the Ring take shape. In this splendid, unabridged audio production of Tolkien’s great work, all the inhabitants of a magical universe - hobbits, elves, and wizards - spring to life. Rob Inglis’ narration has been praised as a masterpiece of audio.

Rob Inglis is a perfect pairing with Tolkien!
Revisado: 02-24-16
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes, and already have recommended Rob Inglis' audio version to my fellow Tolkien lovers!
Who was your favorite character and why?
This changes every time I read (listen to) the book! Faramir is always a favorite due to his gentle warrior nature and his steadfast resistance to the lure of the Ring.
What does Rob Inglis bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Rob Inglis makes the story come to life and does the differences between characters very well. His manner of speech flows very fluidly over Tolkien's challenging Elvish, Middle Earth, etc. language and description of locations.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Sam's speech while he and Frodo are with Faramir is always a great moment and a triumph for those whose heroic deeds are sometimes less obvious than the main heroe's deeds.
Any additional comments?
Love Rob Inglis' narration!!! Definitely a compliment to Tolkien!

Amazing Narration
Revisado: 02-24-16
Would you consider the audio edition of The Fellowship of the Ring to be better than the print version?
No but Rob Inglis certainly does justice to Tolkien's work - amazing combination of Tolkien's words and Rob Inglis' performance.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Fellowship of the Ring?
Fleeing the shire, finding Aragorn and every ecape from the Ring Wraiths. Always amazing parts of the book.
What about Rob Inglis’s performance did you like?
Abosolutely everything! He does the differences between characters very well. His manner of speech flows very fluidly over Tolkien's challenging Elvish, Middle Earth, etc. language and description of locations. I have recommended his audio version to my fellow Tolkien lovers!

ALWAYS LISTEN TO THE SAMPLE!!!!!
Revisado: 02-24-16
What did you like best about Magic and the Modern Girl? What did you like least?
Good continuation of the story. Narration was terrible. Simply painful to listen to the whole book.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Emma Galvin?
Probably I could have picked someone off of the street to read it to me and would have had a better chance of getting a good narration.I really hate to be so harsh but the narrator's voice and cadence of reading was so irritating. I did not want to finish after the first few sentences but did not want to lose the money I had paid for the book so I finished it. She mispronounced some words, paused continuously where no pause should have been (between sentence phrases), put inflection on words that did not need emphasis and did not put any emphasis on others that needed it. Her voice and manner of speech sounded like a hyped up teenager who was always just on the edge of yelling. I kept thinking the voice and pattern of speech reminded me of someone and finally remembered - she sounded like Rocky on the original Rocky and Bullwinkle cartoons. Probably have only heard one worse narrator through Audible books. I should have listened to a sample of the book first - have learned my lesson!
Was Magic and the Modern Girl worth the listening time?
Yes but was so hard to finish due to the terrible narration. There were times I wondered if I were listening to a computer generated narration but surely that would have been better?
Any additional comments?
I will never choose a book with this narrator again.

Horrible Narration and Mediocre Story
Revisado: 07-24-14
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
I have to say this is the WORST reader/performance I have EVER experienced with Audible and there have been a couple of others I thought were bad. This book dragged forever - the story had a lot of potential but never made it there. The narrator's performance seemed like it had a cadence set to a metronome with little actual inflection or emotion. Waste of a credit for sure!
What could Dana Michelle Burnett have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Get to the point already. If a book is going to be this short, the action should not all take place in the last 25 minutes. Good potential story line but never got off the starting blocks.
What didn’t you like about S.A. Archer’s performance?
I have to say this is the WORST reader/performance I have EVER experienced with Audible and there have been a couple of others I thought were bad. This book dragged forever - the story had a lot of potential but never made it there. What character would you cut from Once?
The sister was pretty much undeveloped and not really sure how necessary she was.
Any additional comments?
Just simply disappointed and will avoid any book with S. A. Archer's reading.
