Historia
When retired FBI Agent Patrick Henderson calls in an 'X-Ray Sierra India' incident, the operator doesn't understand. He tells them to pass it up the chain till someone does. That person is FBI Special Agent Kimberley Reynolds. Leaving Quantico for snowbound Northern Wisconsin, she finds that a tornado has flattened half the town—and there's no sign of Henderson. Things soon go from weird to worse, as neighbors report unsettling sightings, key evidence goes missing, and the snow keeps rising—cutting off the town, with no way in or out . . .

Good story ok reader
Revisado: 01-21-25
I thought the reader was ok. She was not the best at making male voices sound different to each other, the little girl voice sounded like a parody and her American accent left something to be desired. I particularly found jarring every time she pronounced Parka as Parker . I think maybe they could have hired an actual american actress instead? No complaints on the story which was interesting and as good as any other from Aaronovitch.

Great worldbuilding, fantastic reader
Revisado: 09-19-24
I’m so happy I discovered this series and can’t wait to dive into it more. The reader was fantastic and the main character very well written as well as the overall world of magic realism.

Historia
After eighty years of fragile peace, the Architects are back, wreaking havoc as they consume entire planets. In the past, Originator artifacts—vestiges of a long-vanished civilization—could save a world from annihilation. This time, the Architects have discovered a way to circumvent these protective relics. Suddenly, no planet is safe. Facing impending extinction, the Human Colonies are in turmoil. While some believe a unified front is the only way to stop the Architects, others insist humanity should fight alone.

Interesting world but repetitive and dragging
Revisado: 09-05-24
I feel like the overall story was interesting but it could have been a much shorter book. I found myself listening for the first time in 1.5 speed because I just wanted to get to it. Lots of fights and battles if you are into that sort of thing, but I don’t need so many details about fights if it doesn’t significantly advance the plot. The main character had been very well delineated in the first book yet this book goes over and over again on the same points about his psyche and his troubled past, maybe not trusting the readers memory enough? Same for other characters and issues that were repeated several times. Trust the reader more, shorten the battles and repetition. It could have been a shorter book. The reader did a good job, no complaints on that score.

Historia
The Discworld is in danger, heading towards a seemingly inevitable collision with a malevolent red star, its magic fading. It needs a hero, and fast. What it doesn't need is Rincewind, an inept and cowardly wizard who is still recovering from the trauma of falling off the edge of the world. Or Twoflower, the well-meaning tourist whose luggage has a mind (and legs) of its own.

Terry Pratchett is always great
Revisado: 05-05-23
I have all of the original recordings and have been buying the new ones. So far I have loved the rereadings of the witches series but I’m not too sure about this one. It’s good just maybe not great.

Terrible narration
Revisado: 05-05-23
I am just starting with this book so I’m not sure how much I like the story but the narration is terrible, it sounds like someone’s grandma reading a fairy tale to a very small child and the characters just sound awkward and weird. I’m sorry for Amanda Plummer but she’s a better actress than an audiobook reader.

The reader is terrible, the topic isninteresting
Revisado: 04-25-22
I wouldn’t have minded it if either we could have heard the actual voices of the people being interviewed or maybe some actors. The author is absolutely terrible at reading and makes it really hard to get through a book that otherwise might have been interesting .

This is about the quality of the files not the book: Skipping audio
Revisado: 10-20-20
I am about halfway through this book and the audio keeps skipping. It is skipping every few minutes, so much that it makes it hard to understand the content. The audio files must be defective since it is not the player that skips ahead but the actual audio.

Enter the fantastical world of Mervyn Peake's Gormenghast Trilogy, one of the undisputed fantasy classics of all time. Novelist C.S. Lewis called Peake's books "actual additions to life; they give, like certain rare dreams, sensations we never had before, and enlarge our conception of the range of possible experience."

One of the best performances I have heard
Revisado: 10-20-16
Simon Vance did an excellent job. This is not an easy book to read yet his voice, his pace, his tone made it justice. It is mesmerizing, both the story and the narration are excellent.
