A rollicking read for anyone who grew up in the 80's. You don't have to be a gamer to enjoy, but it helps.

A highly plausible idea of corporate society. Hamilton takes a look at what would happen if the colonization of other planets was financed by corporations who expect a return on their investment even if it means forcibly extracting goods and ideas. A rollicking adventure.

What did you love best about Childhood's End?

Clarke paints a believable scenario about contact with an Alien species. What did I like best? The relationship between between the Karellen and Stormgren.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I guess my favorite "character" was Rupert Boyce. His job description and the tools he has to execute his duties were fascinating . His house was something too.

Really, I thought that Stormgren was the most interesting character. Walking the tightrope between serving mankind and his friendship Karellen was interesting to watch unfold.

What about Eric Michael Summerer and Robert J. Sawyer (Introduction) ’s performance did you like?

The performance was exceptional.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Where does Dune rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Easily in the top ten of the audible books I have enjoyed. I read this classic years ago and found that the performance basically matched my own inner vision of the book. This version is almost a cross between a dramatization and a pure audiobook read with six different readers adding realism to the characters.

What other book might you compare Dune to and why?

The whole Dune series is compelling once you read this first book. This classic alternate (or future) vision of humankind is complex with well developed characters and exciting multiple story lines. For other sci-fi masterpeices, I would compare this to "To your scattered bodies go" by Philip Jose Farmer or "The Forever War" by Joe Haldeman.

Have you listened to any of the narrators’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I not aware of hearing other performances by the group that did Dune.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Just good hard sci-fi with a compelling story. It has its highs and lows, but even in the most complex descriptions of the world of Dune, I found it completely engrossing.

Would you listen to Steve Jobs again? Why?

Yes... Not only did Isaacson show his talent as a biographer, but Baker's superb performance made it a joy to listen to.

What did you like best about this story?

Isaacson was obviously granted incredible access to Jobs and those around him. While he shows a genuine affection for the man, he manages to keep enough distance to unblinkingly reveal all sides on this complex man. So many of the apocryphal stories around Jobs are either revealed in their true light or proven to be just legend.

What does Dylan Baker bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Baker's reading was a true performance. When required, he brought life to many of the quotes and stories.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Quite honestly, no. A ponderous biography is not the type of listen that draws you in lkike fiction. Instead I found myself looking forward to my morning drive to hear more and was vaguely saddened as I came to the end.

Any additional comments?

The timing of this book was incredible. Right when Jobs was at the front of the news because of his death, this book was available as the definitive biography of JObs.
