The history of Syria in the last century is one of turbulence, violence, and political intrigue, with local religious sects battling for control of the land while foreign powers vied to maintain influence over the region. What resulted was a toxic and twisted mess that has precipitously affected the entire region, from Israel and Lebanon to Iran and Iraq.

Good overview, hard to listen to

While the book is a good overview, the narration is hard to follow. The book is 90% just a list of occurrences with corresponding dates. There is however no real pauses between incidents, meaning that it becomes a "stream of conciousness". A book which is probably best read, not listened to.
