Historia
Adele grew up in the shadows—first watching from backstage at her mother’s Parisian dance halls, then wandering around the gloomy, haunted rooms of her father’s manor. When she’s finally sent away to boarding school in London, she’s happy to enter the brightly lit world of society girls and their wealthy suitors. Yet there are shadows there, too. Many of the men that try to charm Adele’s new friends do so with dark intentions. After a violent assault, she turns to a roguish young con woman for help. Together, they become vigilantes meting out justice.

Powerfully cathartic
Revisado: 12-29-22
Just enough murder happens to validate the title, but the focus is on a woman discovering what strength she can in a time when women had very little power, choosing her own fate (and not just “having some say in the man she marries”). It has action and romance and an arc to keep you engaged without sliding into tropes.

Historia
The company of the Ring is torn asunder. Frodo and Sam continue their journey alone down the great River Anduin - alone, that is, save for the mysterious creeping figure that follows wherever they go. This continues the classic tale begun in The Fellowship of the Ring, which reaches its awesome climax in The Return of the King.

Spectacular narration of classic Tolkien
Revisado: 12-20-22
It’s a classic. It is the second in a trilogy, so you want to listen to the first and continue to the third from here.
The narration is utterly perfect and I’m truly glad I have this audio book. I suggest it to friends and family, and I turn to this series when I want to dive into this world with my ears while doing other things with my hands and eyes.

Historia
In a sleepy village in the Shire, a young hobbit is entrusted with an immense task. He must make a perilous journey across Middle-earth to the Cracks of Doom, there to destroy the Ruling Ring of Power - the only thing that prevents the Dark Lord Sauron’s evil dominion. Thus begins J. R. R. Tolkien’s classic tale of adventure, which continues in The Two Towers and The Return of the King.

Andy Serkis does a beautiful job
Revisado: 08-19-22
I am so glad I purchased these audiobooks. Andy doesn’t just dryly read the words on the page; he performs, he narrates, he is a true bard, and I look forward to relistening over and over. I’ve been telling my friends and family about his performance in these audiobooks!

Deep down here by the dark water lived old Gollum, a small slimy creature. I don’t know where he came from, nor who or what he was. He was Gollum—as dark as darkness, except for two big round pale eyes in his thin face. He had a little boat, and he rowed about quite quietly on the lake; for lake it was, wide and deep and deadly cold.

Historia
Lyra is rushing to the cold, far North, where witch clans and armored bears rule. North, where the Gobblers take the children they steal—including her friend Roger. North, where her fearsome uncle Asriel is trying to build a bridge to a parallel world. Can one small girl make a difference in such great and terrible endeavors? This is Lyra: a savage, a schemer, a liar, and as fierce and true a champion as Roger or Asriel could want. But what Lyra doesn't know is that to help one of them will be to betray the other.

Quantum Mechanics Meets Fantasy
Revisado: 04-05-19
I loved this book. It was a full cast of great narrators and the storyline was engrossing mixing quantum mechanics with religion and fantasy all in a steampunk world.
