Historia
Four months postpartum with her second child, Catherine Simone Gray is back at her doctor’s office, surveying a childbirth wound that refuses to mend. Proud flesh: tissue that overheals to become its own wound. Pregnancy and motherhood had been physically vulnerable for Gray, but this renders her most intimate parts unrecognizable—like her body is no longer her own. Has it ever been her own? As she gets to know her body in its new form, she encounters, too, the girl she’d been at seventeen.

This is a gorgeous and brave memoir. The author’s reading is tremendous and adds so much to her story. I own the paper version, too. I found that reading a part, then listening to part, was quite helpful, especially with some of the more raw parts of Catherine’s story. Sometimes I needed the paper to read her words at a pace that hummed along at my own capacity. And sometimes I needed to hear her voice speak her powerful truth. Highly recommend.

A little unbelievable
Revisado: 02-02-17
Spoiler alert. (Kind of). Great plot idea, but ending was a little too neat. Also, Lib was so strong, I don't know why she needed a man to save her and the child. I loved the idea of her being independent and scientific-minded. The strange and late-arriving romance weakened her.
I started this book by hard copy, and then finished w audible. The performance was solid, but Anna's voice was not at all what I imagined when reading. Still, I think accents were hard, and the reader did a serviceable job with all of them.
