Historia
Prayer and ingenuity have kept the remote English convent of St Winifreda in the Fen going for centuries, but now the roof leaks, the bell tower is crumbling, and rats have moved in. The Bishop’s accountant wants to send the retired sisters to a home, disperse the working nuns, pull down the buildings, and sell the land off as a car park. But he has reckoned without the unstoppable force that is Reverend Mother Elizabeth.

Love His Music, Love His Story
Revisado: 01-31-20
I was just going to listen while on the treadmill this morning, but I could not stop. I put plans aside and finished this too short production. Listening to his voice, his story and his music was a fantastic experience for me. It touched so many feelings and thoughts.
Dear Audible,
Please convince James to continue his story in more productions like this.

Readers were great. Story was good.

I liked the story but the way it was written seemed a little awkward and confusing. The performance lifted it a lot.

Surprised and So Pleased
Revisado: 04-18-19
I don’t usually listen to this type of book but the cover and description intrigued me. So glad I took a chance. Though I don’t know a lot about about Greek or Roman gods, nymphs, or Homer’s Odyssey, I enjoyed this book very much. The narrator was excellent. I hope to find more of her work. I want to try Miller’s, The Song of Achilles, I hope it is as good.

I really enjoyed this book. I liked the humor and characters in the story. The reader was excellent. If not for the f-bombs, I would have said the book was completely fine.

Historia
Historians have long told the story of America’s birth as the triumph of Jefferson’s democratic ideals over the aristocratic intentions of Hamilton. Chernow presents an entirely different man, whose legendary ambitions were motivated not merely by self-interest but by passionate patriotism and a stubborn will to build the foundations of American prosperity and power.

Very long, but very good
Revisado: 07-27-16
What made the experience of listening to Alexander Hamilton the most enjoyable?
The reader was excellent. I played the recorded book at a higher speed just because it was so long, but I could understand every word. I enjoyed learning more about the revolution and early years and founders of the United States.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Alexander Hamilton?
I was surprised to hear of all the "politics" that was even a part of the United States earliest days. It seems that politics has always been a dirty word.
I also enjoyed hearing more about George Washington's personality and the personality of other founders of the nation. Chernow's description of Jefferson and Adams was very different from what I have read in biographies of them written by other authors.
What does Scott Brick bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
I would never know how to pronounce all the french phrases and names. I'm not sure I would have stuck with this book if I hadn't listened to it instead of reading it on my own.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
I liked to hear the letters that Hamilton wrote to Eliza and was touched by her loyalty and love for him.

Liked it
Revisado: 11-11-10
This is not normally the type of book I would read or listen to, and I can't remember what prompted me to buy it. Having said that, I quite enjoyed it. This expedition was something I had never heard about. I wouldn't say all the details were fascinating, but they were interesting. Sometimes I felt like I was on this expedition with them. It really is sort of amazing that they survived. I thought the narration was good, which is important in an audio book. I recommend it, especially if history, Theodore Roosevelt, the Amazonian wilderness of Brazil, or adventures are your thing.

Miss Pettigrew is a down-on-her-luck, middle-aged governess sent by her employment agency to work for a nightclub singer rather than a household of unruly children. Over a period of 24 hours, as she becomes caught up in the life of Delysia LaFloss, her own life is changed - forever. This charming, funny, light-hearted 1938 novel was a bestseller on its first appearance. Read by Academy Award winning actress Frances McDormand, who stars in the 2008 film as Miss Pettigrew.

The reader did a great job, but to me the story was just so-so. I know they made a movie from this book. Maybe having seen the movie would have made it more interesting.

Not my fave
Revisado: 07-24-10
I didn't really get into this book, though I did manage to listen to it all. Maybe I just didn't "get it." I thought the readers for George and the girl (I can't remember her name, so that tells you something) were not that great either.

Revisado: 12-02-09
The story is rich and compelling and the characters are wonderful and interesting. Loyalty, hard-work, honesty, optimism, and lots of other positive values are taught as this beautiful story plays out. I will buy it, in book form,to read to or loan my grandchildren when they are old enough. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to it and recommend it highly.
