Historia
Originally broadcast on BBC Radio 4, Jeremy Irons' perceptive reading illuminates the poetry of T. S. Eliot in all its complexity. Major poems range from 'The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock' through the post-war desolation of 'The Waste Land' and the spiritual struggle of 'Ash-Wednesday', to the enduring charm of 'Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats'.

Excellent poetry read by a Brilliant and Gifted Narrator
Revisado: 12-06-23
I love TS Elliot and was overjoyed to stumble upon this book of his poetry. But the narrator added a new dimension to Elliot’s masterpieces. He made images rise from the page and settle into the heart. His performance deserves 10 stars. This was a most enjoyable experience.

Powerful story
Revisado: 02-12-23
This book should be required reading for all American students. The story is a difficult but powerful history that can and will continue to repeat itself unless the lessons of this narrative are heard and heeded.

Historia
Doris Kearns Goodwin's classic life of Lyndon Johnson, who presided over the Great Society, the Vietnam War, and other defining moments in the tumultuous 1960s, is a monument in political biography. From the moment the author, then a young woman from Harvard, first encountered President Johnson at a White House dance in the spring of 1967, she became fascinated by the man - his character, his enormous energy and drive, and his manner of wielding these gifts in an endless pursuit of power.

An insightful biography well worth the read.
Revisado: 05-23-21
I almost skipped this book because of negative reviews accusing the author of sacrificing the details of LBJs life and presidency to a psychoanalysis of his personality. But I have enjoyed other Goodwin biographies and so I took a chance. I am so glad that I did. This biography goes well beyond an accounting of history to provide a depth of insight into LBJs motives and worldview that unlocks a deeper understanding of LBJ and the decisions he made.

Historia
1923: Faced with impending personal and political scandals (corrupt cabinet members, drinking, gambling, failing health made worse by a quack physician, blackmailers attempting to exploit his numerous affairs and bastard children, murders, and suicides), President Warren G. Harding embarks on a cross-country train trip, from Washington D.C. to Alaska, in an effort to rehabilitate his chances for re-election - something he is unsure he even wants. But the GOP have lost faith in Warren.

This book is nothing but gossip and trash. Shame on audible for making this the only book available on Harding’s presidency.

Historia
This biography by Edmund Morris, the Pulitzer Prize - and National Book Award - winning author of The Rise of Theodore Roosevelt and Theodore Rex, marks the completion of a trilogy sure to stand as definitive. Of all our great presidents, Theodore Roosevelt is the only one whose greatness increased out of office. What other president has written 40 books, hunted lions, founded a third political party, survived an assassin’s bullet, and explored an unknown river longer than the Rhine?

Very fair and comprehensive story of TR
Revisado: 02-25-21
This is by far the best biography series I have read Morris paints a realistic picture of this great man in such way that you are passionately drawn into TR’s history and are freed from the revisionist glasses that so often color the modern reader’s view of the past. You must read all three volumes for the full impact.
The narrator was perfect. His reading made the words jump off of the page and come to life. His interpretation of TR was brilliant. I wish he had been the narrator for volume two but really enjoyed his performance in one and three.

Historia
The similarities between the controversial elections of 1876 and 2000 have brought Rutherford B. Hayes back into public memory. In 1876, Hayes's opponent, Samuel Tilden, won the popular vote and led the Electoral College, but when the returns in some states were disputed, a special electoral commission handed the presidency to Hayes. Historian Hans L. Trefousse recounts the obstacles, triumphs, and real legacy of Hayes' presidency.

This is a children’s book
Revisado: 12-16-20
This is a children’s book without any depth or analysis. The style of the narrator emphasizes the pedantic tone of the text. Unless you are in middle school don’t waste your time.

Historia
In the best-selling tradition of Truman, two-time Pulitzer Prize-winning biographer David Herbert Donald offers a new classic in American history and biography - a masterly account of how one man's extraordinary political acumen steered the Union to victory in the Civil War, and of how his soaring rhetoric gave meaning to that agonizing struggle for nationhood and equality.

Great book but distracting sound engineering
Revisado: 11-05-20
The narrative is very compelling and the narrator was fine but every so often the sound quality would change for a short passage. It was very distracting.

Historia
Cyrus Spitama, grandson of the prophet Zoroaster and lifelong friend of Xerxes, spent most of his life as Persian ambassador for the great king Darius. He traveled to India, where he discussed nirvana with Buddha, and to the warring states of Cathay, where he learned of Tao from Master Li and fished on the riverbank with Confucius. Now blind and aged in Athens - the Athens of Pericles, Sophocles, Thucydides, Herodotus, and Socrates - Cyrus recounts his days as he strives to resolve the fundamental questions that have guided his life’s journeys.
